The Nordic Walking Trail through Castelletto di Brenzone and Campo is generally considered easy to medium. While some sections, particularly those leading to Campo, can be steep and require a moderate level of fitness, many parts offer gentle slopes and accessible paths suitable for various skill levels. It's a varied route with mixed terrain.
The route features a diverse terrain, transitioning between paved village streets, cobblestone paths, unpaved mountain trails, and ancient mule tracks winding through olive groves. You'll experience sections with gentle slopes and mixed routes through woods and vineyards, as well as hillside trails.
This trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Garda and passes through charming medieval hamlets. Key sights include the San Carlo Borromeo Church in Castelletto, the historic center of Castelletto di Brenzone, and the unique 'ghost village' of Campo di Brenzone with its ancient Church of San Antonio Abate in Biaza and the little church of Biaza. You'll also find the Shrine of the Madonna and Child.
The trail is enjoyable for much of the year. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and vibrant scenery. During the Christmas period, the village of Campo is particularly enchanting with numerous nativity scenes nestled among its ancient houses, making it a unique time to visit.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, always ensure your dog is on a leash, especially in populated areas or near livestock, and be mindful of other hikers and local regulations.
No, you do not need a permit or have to pay an entrance fee to hike this Nordic Walking route. It is freely accessible to the public.
Parking is available in Castelletto di Brenzone. Look for designated parking areas within the village to begin your Nordic Walking adventure.
Yes, you'll find options for refreshments. The route passes through Castelletto di Brenzone, where you can find places like Don Pedro Trattoria-Pizzeria and Olivo Restaurant & Pizzeria. You might also encounter friendly trattorias in the hamlets along the way.
Yes, the route is part of the broader Nordic Walking Park in Brenzone sul Garda and intersects with other paths. Specifically, it covers 100% of the 'Anello Campo - 3 Nordic Walking Park' and 80% of 'Percorsi tra il bosco e gli ulivi'.
Castelletto di Brenzone is accessible by public transport, particularly bus services that run along Lake Garda. Check local bus schedules for the most up-to-date information on reaching the trailhead.
Given its 'easy to medium' difficulty and varied terrain, the trail can be suitable for families. However, be aware that some sections leading to Campo can be steep. Families with younger children might prefer sticking to the easier, flatter sections within Castelletto or along the lakefront.
To fully appreciate the unique atmosphere of Campo di Brenzone, often called a 'ghost village' where time seems to have stopped, plan to spend some time exploring its crumbling stone houses and ancient churches. Visiting during off-peak hours can enhance the serene, almost surreal silence of the village. During the Christmas period, look out for the charming nativity scenes.
The starting point for the ghost village Campo Borgo Medievale or Campo di Brenzone was a parking lot in Castelletto. Past the Chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo, a narrow, steep climb begins along paved, old paths. These are lined with olive trees, but also chestnuts. The path then becomes almost flat and leads directly to the ghost village. Due to its remoteness there are only these mule paths, no roads. The village itself consists of a few houses, some of which are dilapidated or even collapsed. But some are in good condition and one even had a light on. Maybe several families live here again? There is a small church whose door was open. It's worth a look. From there the path leads back down to Brenzone. Unfortunately it was raining a bit harder so we walked back along the lake. Otherwise we would have had to make another loop to the north. Still, a nice hiking trip.
A beautiful tour... Very steep up the old cart path 🥵 over shiny cobblestones, accompanied by information boards about the flora 🪴🌱🌿🌼.... Arrived in the ghost village, there are many things to admire, the people who lived there did not have it easy. But it was quiet... Arrived back down at the lake, a relaxed beautiful path goes along the lake. As a reward, I can recommend the restaurants and bars in Casteletto right on the shore... Maybe rent a motor boat 55.-€ h)😁 Stop in Pai on the way back... between Pai and Torri there are nice places on the shore for swimming 🐕👧🤗
Great tour through olive groves and wonderfully quiet; we hardly met any other hikers (in October). The town of Campo does not have many inhabitants, but here you can meet a few hikers taking a break in the quiet and shade of the alleys. The little detour at the end of the tour was the way to a galeteria with homemade and very tasty ice cream :)
From Casteletto di Brenzone via the abandoned village of Campo and back along the lake ❤
Beautiful high path, with many views of Lake Garda
Very nice round, has everything that makes a nice hike. A crisp climb, beautiful paths, great views. The village of Campo...... as if time had stood still. The way back at the lake, fantastic.
