This route was planned by komoot.
This challenging hike typically takes around 6 to 10 hours to complete, depending on your pace and the exact route taken. Komoot estimates the duration at approximately 6 hours and 54 minutes for the full round trip.
This hike is rated as difficult. It involves a significant elevation gain of about 1380 meters and requires good physical training. The terrain becomes rugged and technical in higher sections, with some scrambling and a fixed rope on the final ascent to the summit.
The trail begins in Ornica, in the Upper Brembana Valley. You can typically find parking within the village of Ornica or near the trailhead. It's advisable to arrive early, especially on weekends, to secure a spot.
The terrain varies significantly. It starts in wooded areas alongside a stream, transitioning to pastures. As you ascend into the picturesque Valle dell'Inferno, the path becomes more rugged, characterized by debris and high-mountain environments. The final sections involve navigating through stones and small rocks, with a short, technical scramble over a rocky slab to the summit, assisted by a fixed rope.
Along the way, you'll encounter several notable spots. Highlights include the scenic Inferno Valley, Ornica, the Bocchetta dell'Inferno (2306 m), and the distinctive La Sfinge (The Sphinx) Rock Formation. The Final Ascent to Pizzo Tre Signori offers a thrilling challenge, culminating in exceptional panoramic views from the summit.
Yes, dogs are generally allowed on this trail, as it is located within the Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche. However, due to the challenging and rugged terrain, especially the final ascent with a fixed rope, it may not be suitable for all dogs. Always keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas where wildlife like ibex and marmots might be present.
The best time to hike is typically from late spring to early autumn (June to September). During these months, the snow has usually melted, and the weather conditions are more stable. Always check the local weather forecast before heading out, as high-mountain conditions can change rapidly.
No, there are generally no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike this trail or to access the Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche. However, it's always good practice to respect park regulations, such as staying on marked trails and not disturbing wildlife.
The Agriturismo Ferdy alpine hut is mentioned as the sole refreshment point along the general route to Pizzo Tre Signori. It's advisable to carry sufficient water and snacks for the duration of this challenging hike, as other options are limited.
As you ascend into the Valle dell'Inferno and higher mountain areas, you might be lucky enough to spot local wildlife such as ibex and marmots. The diverse environment also supports various bird species and alpine flora.
Yes, the route to Pizzo Tre Signori from Ornica (via Trail 106) intersects with several other official trails. You will find sections that are also part of the Sentiero Italia - Tappa D15S, Sentiero dei Laghi Alto - Tappa 2, and the Sentiero delle Orobie Occidentali - Tappa 2, among others.
Challenging route, there is no respite. There is water at the beginning and then only streams for the first 4 km. I do not recommend bringing the dog because it is challenging even if it is doable given that the route does not present any difficulties. The valley that goes up from Ornica is very beautiful to travel and as always the view from Pizzo is fantastic. In the route that I did the first 2 km are missing because I could not start Komoot.
Finally, after an eternity since the last excursion in March (due not only to the terrible weather this spring but above all to the initial stages of my wife's third pregnancy which rightly distracted me from excursions), I and the usual climbing friends decide to organize an exit. The destination chosen after a long discussion is Pizzo Tre Signori. Among the various possibilities to reach the summit we choose the path which, according to the "insiders", is the simplest route, that is, from Ornica via path 106. The heavy rains of the previous evening contributed to making the excursion decidedly more complicated than expected and even today's weather didn't work in our favor; rain, wind, fog, sun, the Torrent of Hell swollen beyond belief and lots and lots of snow. Luckily we were equipped for all these things and we managed to reach the summit after 1500 meters of altitude difference and 4 hours of climbing and a lot of gratitude for all this
Truly suggestive route with a view up to the lake of Lecco. The path of the fireplace is not trivial. Definitely the crampons and pike when you come out on the canopy.
