Went on a nice tour of Forchheim with friends from the Ruhr area. We were impressed by the variety and taste of our Franconian beers. 😉 that's why we sat there longer than we were on the road. 🤦♂️ With the weather today it was difficult to sit in the pubs. So after the first stop in front of the Hebedanz brewery we headed for the Kellerwald. They enjoyed the never-ending cellars in the largest beer garden in the world with great enthusiasm. 🤗 Luckily the Kellerwald Express was still running. Otherwise I would never have been able to get them down from the Kellerwald. 🤦♂️🤣🍻🙋♂️
Refreshing round shot on the way of the beer 👩 ❤️ 👨🍻! The way of the beer! In earlier times, when there was no refrigeration machine, the beer was brewed in the old town and then taken to the cellar forest to mature and store. The cityscape of Forchheim was shaped by the brewing industry for centuries. The maximum number of breweries was around 1850 - 18 pieces! Of these, 16 were private breweries and 2 communal breweries. At that time there were over 30 Forchheim breweries and Forchheim had around 3,000 inhabitants. By 1938 the number of pubs had increased: there were 49 pubs in the city center and 7 in the Kellerwald. Today there are still three breweries and 23 beer cellars. You will find a WALK OF BEER star in front of the Hebendanz, Neder and Greif breweries, in front of the Eichhorn brewery restaurant and at the foot of the Kellerwald. Each star has a QR code. This can be used to call up more detailed information about the breweries. Probably the largest beer garden in the world! "Up to the cellar", you will only hear that here in Forchheim! A wonderful environment, shady trees, cool beer from various Forchheim breweries and inexpensive Franconian cuisine - that is the Forchheimer Kellerwald! With 23 beer cellars on an area of around 20,000 m², the Forchheimer Kellerwald can rightly be called the largest beer garden in the world.
