A tour of superlatives, because the Kreuzspitze, at 2,185 meters, is the highest peak in the Ammergau Alps in Bavaria. The hike begins on a parking lot in the furthest Graswang valley directly behind the border with Austria. First you cross the dry river bed of the Neualmbach and are…

Changes in the weather are usually associated with wind or storms. This was also the case today, but I was still able to take advantage of the weather window before the change. It was already quite windy at the top of the summit, even on the ridge above the Schwarzenköpfel. It was a bit quieter in the cirque.

The path to the Kreuzspitze begins with a pleasant forest path that turns into gravelly serpentines. The higher you go, the steeper the path becomes. You can then climb to the summit. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view 🌞👌 The descent is like the ascent.

What a day?!? The alarm clock rang at 3 a.m., 15 minutes later I started and at 6:40 a.m. I was at the German-Austrian border. At 7 a.m., after a short breakfast, I started my hike. It went steadily uphill. The last 150 meters in altitude were even a bit demanding. Despite the rather pleasant ascent, I couldn't believe my eyes at the summit cross, because the path didn't go any further. Komoot had planned the way to the vulture heads for me. Well. Then just back into the valley, because along the whole route there wasn't a path that I could have taken. Shortly after 12 o'clock I was back at the car. But that was not the end of the day. I wanted to go to Mittenwald to climb the Soiernspitze tomorrow. But it was to be very different. In the course of the afternoon I was checked 3 times by the border guards in and around Garmisch. Highest level of security - the G7 announces itself. What a police presence. All parking lots and forest paths between Füssen and Mittenwald are closed - let alone sleeping in the car. So I could forget my tour near Mittenwald. So quickly checked the tour log, rescheduled and just drove to Hinterhornbach. Hopefully the selected tour is already feasible - after all, it should go up to over 2,600 m. But I'll tell you tomorrow...

Once again, the Epix 2 ended the tour on its own after half the length and did not continue the recording from the Kreuzspitze. Something is wrong with the fucking clock. This is the second time on a mountain tour and once I had a huge outlier when recording while running. That pisses me off like a beast. I never had that once with the 5x

A short report about the tour: We have them on 21.05. and at this time of the year it is very easy to walk up the mountain. Initially, the path leads through a dried-up river bed and then into a very beautiful forest (with many switchbacks). Then it goes to a large scree field, where you can already see the summit cross and the climbing points of the Kreuzspitze. The path leads relatively steeply to the Schwarzenkoepfel. From there a beautiful tightrope walk begins to the first via ferrata (which is unsecured). Here you should definitely have good shoes and sure-footedness. After climbing, you then walk another degree to the summit cross and are finally rewarded with a wonderful view of the Zugspitze, Eibsee, Plansee, etc. 👍🏼 I can highly recommend the highest mountain in the Ammergau Alps in the Bavarian part!
