Andrea🌈🌞🥾
June 19, 2022, Nat'Our Route 5 Vianden - Falkenstein

A completely different world today. I had already read and heard a lot of nice things about Vianden... There is a beautiful Nat'Our hike that really deserves its name... The beautiful Vianden Castle, which I didn't visit from the inside due to time constraints, as well as that town, which was quite crowded today on Sunday. So straight into nature... Along the Our, past the castle Falkenstein ruins to the Our loop through almost Mediterranean-looking paths with gnarled oaks and an infinite number of butterflies, which rarely stayed in front of my camera. Lots of great flowers and at the end a rocky path on slate with a railing... It was great fun again and the castle and the city will definitely be conquered again 🤗

The starting point is in fact the start of the chairlift, 4 Rue du Sanatorium, 9425 Vianden.

An absolutely stunning and surprisingly tough hike along both sides of the Our lake. The highlight for me was the adrenaline-pumping Felsenweg, but there are heart-melting views to be found all along the 12km route. Highly recommended!

Vacation in the South Eifel with Andrea and Cooper. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 So beautiful here. Text follows

Today we went on a hike with few rocks. It was also nice. Unfortunately, there were a few sections along the road. The rest of the hike made up for that. Very varied, with great views and narrow, steep paths up and down. 🤸🚶🌞🏰

Very nice hike in a varied low mountain landscape between two knight's castles. (Falkenstein castle ruins & Vianden Castle) ℹ️ The castle is definitely worth a visit lasting several hours. 👍🏼 Surefootedness is required along rugged slate cliffs 🤩 and spectacular sections; a metal railing provides security in difficult places. The tour is fully recommended. LG

Personal first: today I set foot on Luxembourg soil for the first time 👍. Even if it was only on the very edge of this tiny state 😂. The goal was two premium hiking trails, both starting at the same spot in Vianden, Luxembourg. We tackled this one – the almost 13 km long "Nat'Our Route #5" – first thing at 9 a.m. And it got off to a great start: a small weir in the Our River and, shortly behind it, the artistically designed/painted wall of the Our Reservoir. We crossed the dam to the other side of the lake and then walked about 1 km directly along the picturesque shore on the Our Promenade. Our gaze kept glancing back at the imposing, rebuilt Vianden Castle 🏰, perched on a mountain cone high above the town. This was followed by what was probably the most spectacular section of the tour: a steadily ascending slate ridge (partially secured with ropes and railings) with alternating, wonderful views of the reservoir and the surrounding mountain slopes. Sturdy footwear, stamina, concentration, and mindfulness are certainly a good prerequisite for tackling this alpine-like section, and even highly recommended. After that, we continued with a significantly lower heart rate on a still perfectly smooth path until we reached the original starting elevation in the middle section of the elongated yet sharply curved Our Reservoir. But that was only about halfway through the entire route. The next 2 km took us close to the shore at sea level before another steep climb awaited us. Halfway up, we encountered the "Bildchenkapelle" (Little Image Chapel), built in 1848 in the neo-Gothic style. After a quick peek inside, we continued our climb 🥵 and finally arrived at the top station of the Vianden chairlift, which offers much more convenient access to the mountain restaurant (with a fantastic view of Vianden and its imposing castle, by the way) than we were allowed 😂. From here, we descended steeply towards our destination. We passed the castle, which I would have loved to have seen inside (for €13.50). But unfortunately - as is often the case - dogs weren't allowed inside 😪. But that at least saved us about an hour, which we then used to complete the second tour of the day (the almost 10km long "Eislek-Pad") 😂. P.S.: The corresponding pictures - as with all other current vacation trips - will only be available in a few days, after I've "processed" them at home 😅. Update on May 29, 2025: Now the whole thing is finally "pictured" 🥵😂

A last day in Luxembourg and we picked out a signposted hiking route again. Info: https://www.naturwanderpark.eu/wanderwege/a-natour-route-5-vianden-falkenstein Also today we found ourselves mainly on paths and small paths with great visits to old fortifications, castles and castle ruins. Unfortunately, the ruins of Falkenstein Castle are not accessible, but they have a mystical image in the middle of the wilderness. Château Vianden is of course THE highlight in the region. So many people with different languages. Guided tours are available via mobile phone in 8 different languages. But it's massively worth it! I have never seen such a structure. Compared to Château Vianden, Eltz Castle looks like a small hut 😳 Gigantic! Imposing! Unbelievable! VERY interesting: If you look at all the pictures, you can also see the connections to our region on the picture of the family trees. There the nobles of Luxembourg are married to Prince Nassau/Weilburg (far right). Weilburg is our neighboring town and you can also see the connection to the royal family in Weilburg Castle. A great round with many Christian buildings, churches, chapels and shrines. In addition, the rock path and the great views made the day a great experience.
