Dream Trail (Traumpfädchen): Spayer Valley Views – Upper Middle Rhine Valley Cultural Landscape

After the first tour today there was still time and desire for this dream path.

This dreamy trail is pleasant to walk and well-marked. Other hiking trails also cross the route frequently, so you (and your wife too 😉) can often extend your route. At times, you'll also share the trail with mountain bikers—but there's room for everyone here! 👍 I started the tour counterclockwise, though. The steps at the end made the "descent" a bit more pleasant. However, everyone can decide for themselves. There's always something to explore and enjoy! 😊

Due to the relief, it is advisable to walk the path counterclockwise with sturdy hiking boots. Therefore, as soon as you have reached the starting point of the round after 100m, you turn right towards an uphill forest path. It leads steadily uphill, crossing the driveway to the barbecue hut and passing a water pump station. After a significant increase in altitude, the small Sebastianus chapel in the middle of the forest marks the first turning point of the tour. Because now it goes on a winding path down into the valley, with a touch of jungle atmosphere. You suddenly leave the wood and can recover from this initial effort on the following passage on a comfortable valley path. Benches along the way are available for a break and offer great views of the impressive Marksburg Castle! Soon the dream path turns left and the next challenge begins: the ascent to the Rhine plateau. Step by step you pass the Stations of the Cross, first through meadows, later through sparse forest. This is where the Rheingoldbogen Dream Path joins in. Together you reach the Mother of God Chapel after 1.6 km. From here it is only a short climb to the theorists' hut, which is located at the edge of the forest with a beautiful view of the valley for a breather. Then it goes on comfortable dirt roads with almost no difference in altitude, very promising through the open corridor. With a few detours you reach the edge of the slope, where the separation from the dream path is pending. The dream trail uses a wonderful natural path, some of which even bears the features of a ravine. Passing a first view of the Rhine, it goes downhill until the hedges open and after 4.1 km a magnificent view of the Rhine can be admired. It's a good thing there's a bench here! The ascent back to the plateau requires fitness again, but thanks to the short route, surrounded by hedges, meadows and forest, the ascent is quickly mastered. At the Spay barbecue area, there is another opportunity to look down into the valley before the final descent begins with the right-hand bend onto a great path. You walk down through species-rich mixed deciduous forest, some steep passages require good surefootedness, especially in wet conditions. But then it's done and the paved valley path near the B9 is reached. Now it's not far and you're back at the starting point of the round, from where you turn right down to the parking lot.

Magnificent views! The Spayer BlickinsTal dream trail alternates between challenging climbs to the Rhine plateau, scenic descents into the valley, and relaxing stretches through the open countryside. The rewards include wonderful nature trails and magnificent views of the Marksburg Castle and the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

Before the rain came, there was this nice hike today. From the parking lot, after about 50 m of tarred road, there is a change of direction to the right into the forest. A narrow path leads up to the St. Sebastianus chapel. It lies beautifully embedded in nature in front of me. After a short pause, continue to the viewpoint on the Fuchsenberg. Now the symbol guides me back down the forest and takes me next to the country road. The next change of direction to the left is pending. Before that, I enjoy the beautiful view of the Marksburg. Now the way of the cross begins up to the chapel of the Mother of God and it gets really warm for me. The way there is very nicely designed. Once there, I enjoy the view and the interior of the chapel. We continue to the Theoreticians' Hut with a beautiful view of the Rhine Valley. The plateau takes me further across meadows and fields. I am amazed at the large number of wild geese whose chatter I could hear from afar and whose droppings accompanied me on the dirt roads. The next destination is "Valley View" with a fantastic view. Here I then unfortunately went further down the valley, thinking the path would go on like this. But soon turned back. It would have been a pity not to follow the original path that kept surprising me. In fact, after looking down into the valley, it went further up to the hill and then continued in the forest and over the plateau. The last kilometer takes me back to the asphalt road on a narrow, steep ravine and on to the parking lot. It is a great hiking trail with a varied route and great views. Good footwear is required.
