Hiking

Victoria Park is a 3,000-hectare protected treasure nestled in the heart of Truro and accessible in just minutes from the train station. Among the park's natural wonders is a magnificent hemlock forest, a conifer easily recognizable by its distinctive silhouette and tiny pine cones.

The loop we suggest takes you around the park along a peaceful trail. You'll discover an impressive canyon, which you can explore via a network of wooden walkways. Admire the gorge from different levels and access viewing platforms at the base of numerous waterfalls, such as Waddell and Joe Howe.

The route includes descending the 175 steps of Jacob's Ladder, but the more adventurous can tackle the climb in the opposite direction for a challenge. And if you'd like to extend your visit, take advantage of the park's facilities to enjoy a picnic, go birdwatching, or attend one of the regularly scheduled cultural events.

Victoria Park Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The reservoir in Victoria Park sits in the upper woodland and once served as part of Truro’s early water supply system. Today it’s a peaceful forest pond surrounded by tall trees, with simple access points from the Reservoir Trail. The waterbody provides a quiet contrast to the gorge and waterfalls in the lower park and works as a natural landmark for walkers exploring the upper loops. It’s an easy stop on any longer outing through the park’s higher terrain.

Waddell Falls and Joe Howe Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

These two waterfalls are close to each other and are among the must-see attractions of Victoria Park. It's best to visit after a period of rain to fully appreciate their power and beauty. The wooden walkways leading to them are also very pleasant.
