New Farm Park

Highlight • Rest Area

New Farm Park is one of Brisbane’s oldest and most popular riverside parks, known for its expansive lawns, mature fig trees, and formal rose gardens. Established in the early 20th century on former farmland, it has long served as a major recreational space for picnics, events, and community gatherings. The park also connects directly to the Brisbane Riverwalk, making it a key green space along the river corridor.

New Farm Riverwalk

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The New Farm Riverwalk is a sealed multi-use riverside path that links the inner-city area with the suburb of New Farm, offering scenic views of the river and skyline. It forms part of the larger Brisbane Riverwalk network, with sections like this one built on a suspended boardwalk above the water and segregated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. Originally opened in the early 2000s and rebuilt after major flood damage, the current structure reopened in 2014 with a more resilient design and remains a popular commuting and recreational route.

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens

Highlight • Natural

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens is a heritage riverside park established in 1855 at the edge of the CBD, known for its mature trees, ornamental plantings, and mangrove boardwalks. Meandering paths connect lawns, ponds, and historic features, creating a shaded, peaceful stretch along the Riverwalk loop. Its location by the river serves as an important floodplain, emphasising the city's historical ties to the Brisbane River.

William Jolly Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

William Jolly Bridge is a heritage-listed road and pedestrian bridge spanning the Brisbane River between the CBD and South Brisbane. Opened in 1932, it is recognised for its distinctive concrete arch design and Art Deco detailing. The bridge remains an important inner-city crossing and a prominent architectural landmark along the river corridor.

Go Between Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Go Between Bridge is a modern road, pedestrian, and cycle bridge spanning the Brisbane River, opened in 2010 to improve inner-city connectivity and relieve traffic pressure on nearby crossings. Its contemporary cable-stayed form makes it a distinctive feature of Brisbane’s river skyline.

At the western end of the Victoria Bridge you will find the very photogenic letters “BRISBANE”, which (presumably) were cleverly placed in front of the skyline by the city marketing department to make a chic photo opportunity.

Kangaroo Point Cliffs

Highlight • Gorge

A fantastic sight in Brisbane is definitely the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. Like the South Bank Parklands, the cliffs are located on the other side of the Brisbane River and were formerly an old quarry.

Now, a small park has been built at the top of the cliffs, offering fantastic views of the Brisbane skyline. The view from here of the river and the skyscrapers is phenomenal!

Note: You can easily walk along the river from the South Bank Parklands to the cliffs – a lovely walk that's well worth it!

Story Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The name "Story Bridge" initially sounds almost philosophical or poetic—as if the structure could tell stories. However, this is misleading. The bridge is simply named after John Douglas Story, a well-known and important civil servant in Brisbane.

Also beautiful: At night, the Story Bridge is illuminated in a multitude of vibrant, constantly changing colors.

Tip: If you like, you can also climb the bridge during the Story Bridge Climb. We did the two-hour tour ourselves and had goosebumps the entire time. The 360-degree view from 70 meters high of the skyline and the surrounding city is simply breathtaking!
