The trail is a 5.0 km (3.1 miles) loop. Most hikers can complete the entire loop in about 1 hour and 3 minutes, though your pace may vary.
The trail offers varied surfaces. Approximately 2.1 miles are paved, while 1 mile consists of a more primitive path. You'll encounter a mix of concrete and gravel underfoot. It's generally flat, with only minor elevation changes.
Yes, this trail is generally graded as 'Easy' and is suitable for most hikers, including beginners and families. Its flat terrain and varied surfaces make it an accessible option.
You'll enjoy picturesque views of the 92-acre lake, surrounded by woodlands and open marshy areas. The woodlands feature mixed hardwoods and pines, with some trees draped in Spanish moss. It's a prime spot for birdwatching, especially in summer and fall, where you might spot songbirds, woodpeckers, flycatchers, and wading birds like herons, egrets, and White Ibises.
Yes, leashed pets are welcome on the Ed Lisenby Lake Trail. Please ensure your dog remains on a leash and you clean up after them.
Beyond the trail, the area offers a wooden fishing/observation pier, multiple picnic areas, and clean public restrooms. Concessions are also available. The lake is also known for bass fishing.
There are no specific permits or entrance fees mentioned for accessing the Ed Lisenby Lake Trail itself. It is part of the larger Ed Lisenby Public Lake complex, which is open daily from sunrise to sunset, but closed on Wednesdays.
Parking facilities are available within the Ed Lisenby Public Lake complex, which serves as the main access point for the trail. Look for designated parking areas upon arrival.
The trail is enjoyable year-round, but summer and fall are particularly good for birdwatching. The diverse scenery makes it a pleasant experience in most seasons.
The trail itself is a highlight, offering continuous views of the lake and its surrounding habitats. You'll also traverse sections of the Ed Lincecum Walking Trail, which is part of the loop.
This is a nice litte trail. The trail is 3 miles long, with markers at every tenth if a mile. It is marked at every half mile. The first mile (green), second mile (yellow), & third mile (red) are clearly identified to allow hikers to know where they are at all times. The first two miles (green & yellow zones) are made of asphalt, the third mile (red zone) is unpaved, hard pack dirt with light gravel in some places. I wouldn't recommend strollers (unless you have larger wheels designed for trails) after the first mile as the trail becomes progressively more "natural" as you go. Absolutely beautiful. A hidden gem.
