Hiking

Discover the San Joaquin River via Ya-Gub-Weh-Tuh (Pa'san Ridge Trail), an easy hike that offers a gentle introduction to the scenic San Joaquin River Gorge. This route covers 1.0 miles (1.6 km) with no elevation gain, making it a perfect quick outing that takes around 27 minutes to complete. As you walk, you will move through diverse landscapes, from open meadowlands to shaded forests, eventually descending into the river valley where you can admire granite outcrops and towering pines. Look for excellent vistas of the gorge from the footbridge over the San Joaquin River.

When planning your visit, be aware that a day-use fee of approximately $5 is required for parking at the trailhead, though America the Beautiful and Lifetime Senior Passes are accepted. The Ya-Gub-Weh-Tuh Campground is conveniently located right at the trailhead if you plan to stay longer. This trail is notable for its connection to the San Joaquin River Gorge, providing impressive views of the boulder-lined river and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. The route's indigenous name, Ya-Gub-Weh-Tuh, also known as Pa'san Ridge Trail, highlights its cultural significance in the region. It offers a chance to experience the natural beauty of the area, from moss-coated riverbanks to the diverse plant life that thrives here.
