This easy loop trail features rolling hills, ridges, and valleys. You'll walk through beautiful aspen groves, which are particularly stunning in the fall, and past the lake itself. While some trails in the broader Warner Lake area can be rocky or steep, this specific loop is generally smooth and accessible.
The high-elevation environment means you might spot mule deer, elk, or even black bears. Ospreys are also known to frequent the area. In summer, the trail is vibrant with wildflowers, and in autumn, the aspen trees display spectacular colors.
Parking is available directly at the trailhead, which is located within the Warner Lake County Park. It's generally easy to find a spot, especially if you arrive earlier in the day.
Yes, dogs are welcome on the Warner Lake Loop. Please ensure your dog is kept on a leash to protect the local wildlife and for the safety of other hikers.
The trail is beautiful in summer when wildflowers are abundant and the high elevation offers a cool escape from the heat of lower areas like Moab. However, many hikers consider autumn the best time, as the aspen groves turn brilliant shades of gold and orange.
Generally, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Warner Lake Loop or to access Warner Lake County Park. However, it's always a good idea to check the Manti-La Sal National Forest website for any current regulations or alerts before your visit.
Yes, this loop is rated as easy, making it a great option for beginners and families. The relatively short distance and minimal elevation gain provide an enjoyable and accessible outdoor experience for all skill levels.
Unlike many desert trails near Moab, this loop is situated at a high elevation (around 9,300 feet) within the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This offers a significantly cooler climate, diverse ecosystems with aspen forests and alpine zones, and vibrant fall colors, providing a distinct contrast to the red rock landscapes.
The primary landmark is Warner Lake County Park itself, which, while more like a pond, offers iconic views. The trail provides scenic vistas of the lake, surrounding forests, and geological formations, especially as you traverse the rolling hills.
Even though it's an easy trail, it's wise to bring water, snacks, and layers of clothing as mountain weather can change quickly. Sun protection is also recommended due to the high elevation. Don't forget your camera for the beautiful scenery!
The Warner Lake Loop is one of the easier options in the vicinity. Other trails, like the path to Oowah Lake or the Mann's Peak Loop, can be significantly more challenging with greater elevation gains and steeper, rockier sections. This loop offers a more gentle introduction to the area's beauty.
Today, Martha and I wore our "footwear traction devices." I'm not sure we needed them, but they boosted my confidence as we walked in the snow. Warner Lake County Park is yet another great hike that the AllTrails app brought to our attention. You can tell that Stearns County really cares about this park. You can feel the love, care, and attention that it receives. There is a swimming beach, picnic area, and trails for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Helpful trail maps are at all the intersections. I have made a komoot hiking highlight for the park to bring it to the attention of the komoot community.
