Hiking

This waterway path leads you from Sölden to the Windache valley. At this point, a Waalweg was modeled. These are narrow, wooden canals on which the valley dwellers once directed the water into the valley. The Waalwege in Windachental are equipped with all sorts of barriers, basins and water wheels - a great experience for children. There are also beautiful viewpoints with great views of the mountains of the Ötztal.

Your hike starts right in front of the tourist office in Sölden. From here you walk a bit through the city until the trail branches off. Along meadows and farms along the path leads you into the forest and on into Windachental. It goes briskly uphill and soon you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Ötztal.

Above the Windache, it is now pretty flat. Soon the waterway path branches off to the right and leads you directly to the Waalweg. Plan a little time here, so that your children can let off steam. On beautiful forest trails, you finally hike downhill again. On the banks of the Ötztaler Ache, you then stroll comfortably back to Sölden.

The Waalweg on the Windache

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Waalwege are irrigation channels that have led the waters of the wild mountain streams to the pastures and fields of the mountain farmers. Here at the Windache a wooden Waalweg was repaired and small and large hikers can enjoy the bubbling water.

Water Runner Waalweg Mooserstegle Sölden A fantastic little walk through nature. Very informative and found a nice barbecue spot. A great start to the week in Sölden.

The Waalweg trail was our solution for a nice hike in Sölden before darkness set in again. After we came down from the 3,000,000 m, we walked along the water, then immediately climbed steeply again. It's already 26°C and too warm for us. The trail leads into the forest, sheltered from the sun. Suddenly, a new challenge presents itself: sheep are being rubbed on our way down to the valley, running us over 😅. Eventually, we reach the water, and it gets cooler, just the way we like it. We continue along the Waalweg trail into the valley. A beautiful end to the day.
