Start from the convenient parking lot of Punta Sabbioni with the sea at your side and immediately the landscape wins you over: on one side stands the island of Sant'Erasmo, the vegetable garden of Venice, while in front of you opens the view of the Punta Sabbioni Lighthouse, a beautiful guardian at the gates of the lagoon. Cycle along the Lungomare Dante Alighieri and enjoy the wonderful view of Sant'Erasmo, a moment of peace and tranquility that only this lagoon can offer. Continue and admire the imposing structure of the MOSE, a masterpiece of civil engineering that protects Venice from high water.

Leave the beach and immerse yourself in the lush Pineta di Punta Sabbioni, where forest paths accompany you in unspoiled nature. Among silent country lanes, breathe in the scent of pine trees and let yourself be lulled by the quiet. Before closing the loop, stop at Forte Treporti, an Austrian fortress built between 1845 and 1851 to monitor the lagoon area: its telemetric towers tell stories of war and sightings.

You return to Punta Sabbioni with your heart and memory full of marine views, lagoon views, history and nature. A small tour that encapsulates the soul of the Venetian coast.

Fort Treporti

Highlight • Historical Site

Also known as Forte Vecchio and built on the ruins of a pre-existing French fort, it was constructed by the Austrians in the second half of the 19th century (1845–1851) to control the lagoon and the Punta Sabbioni harbor entrance. Located a suitable distance from Venice, it was equipped with adequate anti-ship armament on the seaward side, but also had passive defense artillery facing the Venice lagoon. During the Great War, two rangefinder towers were built, one cylindrical and the other square, designed to spot the enemy and calculate the direction of fire.
Today, Forte Treporti is partially inhabited, and its premises have become home to several sports and cultural associations.
