This route was planned by komoot.
The tour over the Besseggen is one of the most experienced in Norway, and there is a good reason for that. You take the boat on the lake Gjende to the hut Memurubu and then walk back on the ridge (just the Besseggen) up to Gjendesheim. It is advisable to book the boat in advance, as it is often full in advance (especially on weekends). Of course, the tour can also be done the other way around! You walk steep passages, especially the ridge itself, but you are also rewarded with fantastic views of the turquoise-green Gjende. The most famous view is, of course, down to Gjende and Bessvatnet, which stand out for their completely different colors. But otherwise the area is also very beautiful, with bushes at the beginning and the end, and stone desert at the top of Veslfjellet. Snow often falls here in September.
Start at the departure point of the shuttle boat in Gjendesheim. It's worth booking in advance, as you get priority access to the boat and the ships are often sold out. Tickets are available here: https://www.gjende.no Beautiful tour, instead of describing everything I took photos of spectacular places, but that's not all! Note: you have to climb at one point. Not for those afraid of heights, as the ridge looks like it goes up into the sky. There is a place on the way down that can be easily overcome with a rope.
Good weather and good physical condition required. Various videos on Youtube.
The famous hike across the Besseggen. We took the Gjende ferry to Memurubu and hiked back to Gjendesheim.
We start with the first boat in Gjendesheim and drive across the Gjende to Memurubu. The long hike is worth it with lots of great views and a nice rest at Bessvatnet with a foot bath. We climb over the ridge to the summit of Veslfjellet (1743m). A long descent follows back to the starting point.
As always with altitude and Komoot... it's actually about 1150
