Cycling

The Veerse Meer was created by the construction of the Delta Works and has since become one of the most beautiful recreational waters in the Netherlands. During this route around the Veerse Meer, you follow the water almost the entire time, with views of sailboats, surfers, and small islands scattered across the water. The open environment and the vast views ensure that you always see something new.

You cycle over dams such as the Veerse Gatdam, where you can really feel the wind, and have the option to take a short ferry ride along the way. This allows you to experience the area from different perspectives and gives the route a varied character.

In the historic town of Veere, you step right into the past. Narrow streets, old facades, and places like the town hall and the Campveerse Toren give the town a special atmosphere and testify to a rich trading history. You can also easily get off your bike here for a break. We recommend planning ample time here, as there is so much to see.

Nature reserves such as the Veerse bos and the Zilveren Schor also provide variety along the way, with quiet stretches where you can cycle in peace.

A route in which nature, history, and the typical Zeeland landscape constantly alternate.

Fort Den Haak

Highlight • Historical Site

Fort Den Haak is a small nature reserve with dunes, pools, grasslands and shrubs. In the landscape you can still see the contours of the former 16th century fort.
The fort was built as a defense against possible Spanish landings on this coastal strip of Walcheren. The original fort dates from the period of the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648).

A historic location to muse about the past.

Very nice tour, highly recommended. Varied cycle paths, both below and on the dike, 2 locks (wolphaartsdijk and Veere) as a small highlight by the way. The route can be shortened in Veere when using the ferry (Veere - Kamperland).

Family tour for five. Beautiful, well-signposted paths off the road. Lots of holiday parks and campsites around Verse Meer. Unfortunately missed the ferry in Veere.

The return journey towards Vrouwenpolder is a bit more strenuous with a headwind of approx. 20 km/h. Light clouds, mostly 🌤️The main thing is dry.
