This 19-kilometer-long circular hiking trail was created in memory of two regional foresters. Even though the poacher's hiking trail has a dark origin, you can look forward to fascinating cliffs, a castle-like observation tower and lots of nature.

Nice round, everything looks completely different than a few years ago because entire forest areas have disappeared. There are a few pesky gravel areas in the middle of the trail, otherwise there are some nice little trails and nice rocks.
Start and finish: Bus stop Temme, Kleinenberg The poacher hiking trail is one of the official partner trails of the Hermannshöhen and works surprisingly well as a supplementary trail, despite the fact that a good half of the route is parallel to the Hermannshöhen and that in my case I already knew a good 2/3 of the way. My starting point is in the middle of Kleinenberg. We'll get to where the place got its name from later. First we leave Kleinenberg behind us in a southerly direction. I know the course very well. Already on the Hermannshöhen, the poacher trail served as my access route. Despite the long asphalt road, the stretch is quite nice to walk, even if the forest has been cut down radically here. The remaining trees fought back during the most recent storm and blocked my path several times. A strenuous obstacle course in this weather. And that, although I couldn't actually stay here long (or didn't want to stay much longer), because I was literally besieged by the deer louse fly... 😱 Popularly known as "flying ticks"... and they really are! They fly straight at their prey, shed their wings, and then dash down the arm like greased lightning to find a good spot to bite. 😤 These critters are sometimes the most annoying thing the insect kingdom has to offer, because stripping is not (the critters have barbs). Don't bang on it either (the critters are pretty tough). All that remains is to grab it courageously and pull it upwards... But it's not all that bad, because if you believe serious newspaper reports, deer aphid flies don't attack people, but wild animals and horses. It's just stupid that these flies so rarely read the newspaper... 🙄 That's why I only visited my grandmother in Bülheim very quickly. A boulder that was erected on purpose - why, probably as a waystone, is not clearly known. In any case, the flies were the most aggressive here... At some point, the poacher trail meets the Hermmanshöhen and from there it always runs parallel to it. First-time hikers will love the poacher trail. For me it was more of a feeling that I've seen it all before, even though I'm lucky that the Egge Mountains were still forested back then. That was exactly the greatest strength of the Eggeweg: This dense, wild forest. Now you have a lot more distant views, but the spark just doesn't jump over here anymore. On the contrary: It's not even fun anymore, because now you're smashing your way through dense ferns, which immediately brings to mind the famous raptor chase from Jurassic Park, because a path can no longer be made out here either. Again and again I push my way through the head-high fern. Well, and besides unbearable heat, the bare areas don't offer too much show value. But the sun-ripened blueberries are really tasty! 😋 And the whole thing has another advantage: There are only a few sights on the Eggekamm, but this is one of the few
The hike starts at the pilgrimage church in Kleinenberg and leads partly along paved paths, as well as along narrow trails and forest roads through the Egge valley. The ferns on the Klippenweg trail, now as tall as a man, seem to grow thicker every year. We were lucky that most of the path had been cleared, but a bit of adventure remained. https://www.wanderbares-deutschland.de/wege/alle-wege/hermannshoehen-tourentipp-wilderer-wanderweg-rund-um-kleinenberg-529e366bb2
Went on a beautiful but strenuous (lots of icy paths) hike with a friend. Afterwards we enjoyed a good coffee ☕️ with a very tasty waffle 🧇 in the pilgrim cafe in Kleinenberg. We deserved it 😊.
Some hiking trails are extremely overgrown with raspberry bushes, thorn bushes, ferns, and other shrubs. Some are barely recognizable. Arms, legs, and clothing are severely damaged. This route is not recommended.
Today I was with 2/4 of die_wilden_vier on a nice loop through the Egge with only moderate inclines. I went on this tour in 2012 and 2015. The route is very varied up to the sacrificial stone and the cliff path (around kilometer 16). Especially the deep cut of the old railway and Bierbaum's nail are very worth seeing. The route here leads over long stretches of unpaved forest roads and paths. The ridge heights are now almost entirely treeless due to the bark beetle infestation. Most of the wood has already been cleared, however, and low vegetation has formed. The new optics allow good distant views. The way back to Kleinenberg unfortunately runs on forest roads, partly paved. Here you should reschedule the tour a bit.
The harrow seems to magically attract me 😊 The official poacher hiking trail was unknown to me, along which the most important sights (Alte Eisenbahn, Karlsschanze, Bierbaumsnagel) are located. It is also nice that this hiking trail leads over part of the Eggeweg (Teutonia cliffs). For everyone who would like to explore this area again, the poacher hiking trail is just right 👌🏻
We set off from Kleinenberg in perfect weather on the Poacher's Trail. It's a beautiful hike through open terrain, forest, and fern jungle. Due to the vegetation, the many cliffs and rocks are only visible in a few places at this time of year. The trail is steep and veers over gravel and asphalt sections. The last 3km can be safely skipped; there's nothing exciting to see there, and it winds back to the village on gravel and asphalt. In the village, visit the pilgrimage church and the Stations of the Cross.
