Alderney – Fort Albert & Bibette Head

Starting from charming St Anne’s, this point-to-point hike explores some of the scenic and historic treasures of Alderney, the second largest of the archipelago’s islands. Scratch beneath the surface, beyond its beautiful beaches, cliff paths and vibrant wildlife, and you’ll discover one of the world’s most heavily fortified islands.

From the Romans and the Tudors to the Germans during the Second World War, Alderney’s location in the English Channel has given it huge strategic importance. This walk explores some of the island’s most intriguing forts, including the extensive Fort Albert and the mostly intact German defences at Bibette Head. It ends at Alderney’s most ancient defensive site, its Roman Fort, otherwise known as the Nunnery.

Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to visit some glorious beaches, including Saye Beach’s majestic curve of sand and sheltered waters. The hike ends at Longis Beach, the longest stretch of white sand on the island.
