Grand Brissogne to Bivacco Ménabréaz and the Laures Lakes

Start from the parking lot of Grand Brissogne, a small hamlet above Aosta reachable via a narrow road that climbs through the woods. The trail immediately enters the Laures valley on a dirt track, with the stream rushing impetuously between the rocks and accompanying the entire ascent with its constant noise.

In the larch forest, you pass the pastures of La Vieille and Tramail, alpine outposts that mark the boundary between the wooded world and the open one. Outside the woods, the landscape changes completely: alpine meadows, rounded rocks, and a silence that grows deeper with every step. The valley is one of the most solitary and wild environments in all of Aosta Valley, frequented by those who love to venture truly far. Upon reaching the first basin, the Lower Lake of Laures appears as a deserved reward.

The Ménabréaz Bivouac, attached to the old hunting lodge of Baron Beck Peccoz, is located a little further on, hidden behind a grassy ridge: here you can find four beds.

If you still have energy, the upper lakes await you: Lac Long and Lac d'en Haut follow each other towards the peaks in a sequence that becomes increasingly difficult to interrupt. The descent retraces the same path towards the valley floor.
