On this tour, you'll ride not only from highlight to highlight, but also from idea to idea. Each village has chosen something it wants to tell. The start and finish is the parking lot at the Amethyst-Welt in Maissau.

Via Klein Burgstall, you'll ride out to Eggendorf am Walde, known as the Venus village, and continue to Grübern with its Amethyst Chapel. In Wilhelmsdorf, everything revolves around herbs. Through Maissau, you'll continue to Oberdürnbach, where the Gottfried-von-Einem memorial commemorates the composer and the Rabl-Kreuz stands outside the village. In Unterdürnbach, the lavender village, the show garden awaits, and in the vineyards above it, the old Hiatahütte, where the wine guardian used to spend weeks until the harvest.

You'll ride a small loop through the village of Limberg, which stands for the theme of granite, and roll back towards Maissau. Here it's worth taking a short break at the lighthouse. It's located in the middle of the vineyards, with a beach chair in front of it, purple sand underneath, and a great view over the Schmidatal valley. The color will accompany you all day anyway, as Maissau has consistently coordinated planting, lighting, and design with the violet of the ribbon amethyst. Afterwards, you'll head back to the starting point at the Amethyst-Welt, which you can explore at the end.

Amethyst World Maissau

Highlight • Natural Monument

There is a lot on offer here, in addition to interesting guided tours of the large amethyst vein (the world's largest exposed, according to the website), both young and old can also try their hand at prospecting in the treasure hunter field. A beautiful park with various themed gardens, a large gemstone shop, and a café complete the offering.
A TOP excursion destination, offering fun and knowledge for the whole family. Definitely worth a visit.

The herbal spiral around a drinking fountain not only offers hikers and cyclists fresh drinking water, but also invites them to linger and enjoy.

Hiatahütte Unterdürnbach

Highlight • Rest Area

The hut has been around for over a hundred years. The Hiata was the wine guardian of the place. As soon as the grapes ripened, he would move up into the vineyards and stay there until the harvest. His job was to watch over everything. Over everyone who wanted to get their hands on the ripe grapes, and over the starling flocks that could empty a vineyard in a short time. During the day he would do his rounds, but especially at night. Anyone he caught, he would punish.

Maissau Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

As part of a competition by students of the University of Applied Arts under the direction of Prof. Erwin Wurm, artworks for a sculpture axis were selected by a jury, which also consisted of people from Maissau. One of the selected objects is the lighthouse by the artist Lukas Troberg. The approximately 26-meter-high lighthouse was erected on Maissauer Berg in the area of the old B4 intersection Eggenburg. The lighthouse with the themed trail is part of the tourist measures of the project „Maissau becomes violet” and is another tourist attraction for our large municipality.

Great route, a bit of uphill and downhill, everything included, quite chilly at the start of the tour 🥶🚵‍♀️🤩
