Hiking

Enjoy the mountain air while soaking in the aroma of grilled sausages or vegetables: The Löwenpfad "Höhenrunde" (High-Altitude Trail) redefines and combines enjoyment. Around eleven kilometers are brimming with beautiful viewpoints, yet still provide plenty of food for your physical well-being – provided you bring your own barbecue food.

With your backpack packed, you start at the hiking car park at the Haus des Gastes with a tough climb. You'll have to climb around 250 meters in altitude over just under two kilometers. Once you reach the top, you've made it. A breathtaking panorama of the Albtrauf with Bad Ditzembach below you opens up before you, which you can enjoy from a wooden bench.

Once you've caught your breath, the trail leads you along the edge of the forest at almost the same altitude. From up here, you have a fantastic view of the small airports of Berneck and Bad Ditzenbach. With a bit of luck, you'll see gliders gliding gently through the air. Before you turn off at the Neue Steige trail, you'll enjoy a long break at the Aimer hiking car park. If the grill is nice and hot, you can simply pack your sausages.

With a satisfied stomach, you'll begin your digestive walk and can pause for a moment at the Tierstein. The view of the valley towards Gruibingen is definitely worth it. If you still have the energy in your calves, a detour to the Hiltenburg castle ruins is worthwhile before rounding off your tour at the Haus des Gastes.

It's always worth coming here with the little ones. It's also always worth arriving early. When the weather's nice, there's almost always a barbecue going on, so you can sit down with a sausage before heading off.

July 23, 2025,Löwenpfade Höhenrunde
Today, after my vacation, I'm taking my first walk back to my hometown. It's always a big change to learn to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings again. This Lion Trail is a beautiful hike. The weather is brilliant after all the rainy days, I'm completely alone, the silence... and yet, the feeling still lacks a bit of the magic …

A hike around Bad Ditzenbach with the highlight of the Hiltenburg Castle ruins.
Start at the Schonterhöhe hiking car park, passing through the eastern Oberbergfels, Eckfelsen, Oberberghof (agriculture and equestrian center), the town hall, and Hiltenburg Castle.

A beautiful hike along the edge of the Swabian Alps. It starts with a steep climb on a lovely path. Then the trail continues for a long stretch directly along the escarpment, mostly on narrow paths. Finally, there's an interesting castle ruin – a great loop that's really fun, even the dogs loved it!

This morning by train to Geislingen a. d. S., then take the bus to Bad Ditzenbach to walk the “Löwenpfad” high-altitude circuit. We started at the Kurklink bus stop. Right at the beginning there is a steep climb to the Oberbergfels with a fantastic view over Bad Ditzenbach. We went along mostly great paths to other beautiful viewpoints such as …

Still almost an insider tip. Although the tour is a certified quality trail, you hardly meet other hikers. The views from the steep cliffs on the Trauf are incredibly beautiful. There are many small natural treasures to discover along the way.

Very well signposted. You can safely put your mobile phone navigation aside.

I just wanted to go to the Hiltenburg again. And you really can't go wrong with a lion path. However, I changed the tour a bit so that I had the ascent to Hiltenburg with me. I've walked the individual sections before, but not on this lap.

Today something different and did a hike on the Swabian Alb.
Very nice way, only to be recommended.
Unfortunately I can't add any more pictures. Something doesn't work 🤷
So, I've now done the whole thing on PC. maybe the pics will stay in now.
