"Pilgrimage through nature to leave everyday life behind" - worked perfectly 😀 Starting in the rental, you will come across a Way of the Cross, a Lourdes grotto and a goat farm (Loretto), from which you can see the Alps in the best of weather. After the Wimsen Cave and the wildly romantic Ach valley, the path leads through forests and before the end of the tour along a narrow path back to Zwiefalten. The late baroque cathedral is impressive!
The start of our 2nd tour "Hochgehpilgert" was at our Hotel Post, a tavern dating back to the 17th century, in the monastery and pilgrimage town of Zwiefalten. The place with about 2500 inhabitants is located on the edge of the biosphere area Swabian Alb on the Aach, about 45 km from Reutlingen. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape, lush meadows, fertile fields and rich treasures of wood and natural stones as well as springs. First we went through the narrow, beautiful rental before we came to more open farmland with grain and corn fields. Stone sculptures show the Passion of Christ along the pilgrimage route with 14 stations. At the end of the Way of the Cross is the Lourdes Grotto, which has been a jewel of the cultural landscape for 120 years. This was built from boulders in honor of Mary. The further way led us to Loretto, a former pilgrimage church, today a goat farm and wood-fired bakery. Unfortunately the farm shop was closed. Nevertheless, we allowed ourselves a first break here with a wonderful view. Really a worthwhile place. The Wimsener Höhle was the next point of our hike. Up to this point we had hardly met any other hikers, but suddenly the place was littered with cars and people. The Wimsen Cave is the source of the Zwiefalter Aach, which is 8.9 km long and then flows into the Danube. We will explore the cave itself tomorrow. On the way back along the Aach, there were still a lot of people on the move. This changed quickly when we turned towards Trinity Cross. At the cross itself we had a fascinating view of Zwiefalten and the minster. At the end of our way we marveled at the cathedral built in the late baroque / rococo style with its rich furnishings, the late Gothic miraculous image from the 16th century, the frescoes and sculptures and the choir stalls. Our astonishment at the great splendor knew no bounds. GG
Wanted to tackle the last of the high mountains today that was still missing ☺️ What can I say, in our opinion it doesn't deserve the name "premium hiking trail". 🙈 There are 90% forest roads or roads, which is just not nice to walk. There aren't that many highlights, clearly the Stations of the Cross with the Lourdes Grotto. The Loretto was extinct. The Wimsener Höhle was very full, it was our own fault to go on vacation 😁 The way from the cave is really beautiful, but not that long. Then it was actually just walking 😁 Zwiefalten is nice to look at, it's absolutely worth going to the late baroque Münster 🤩 Conclusion, nice but we wouldn't go there again 🙈☺️ sorry for the honesty, but that's exactly what I want to read from others. Pictures are often chosen more beautifully than what the path reveals. 😁🙋♀️🙋🏼
Good bye! This is a hike on the premium hiking trail »high pilgrimage« from Zwiefalten in the district of Reutlingen. https://hochgehberge.de/touren/hochgehpilgert-premiumwanderweg-in-zwiefalten-hayingen/ Pictures will be titled. Greetings to you Mammoth Frank
You know that feeling when you approach the starting point of a hike, full of anticipation? And then you walk... and walk... and nothing happens. Straight ahead on wide gravel, interspersed with field paths and a few tufts of grass. The only highlight after 8 kilometers is the Friedrichhöhle cave in Wimsem, complete with its inn. But you can also take a beautiful hike up the stream from Zwiefalten in an hour. Essentially, the premium hiking trail was an access route to and from the Friedrichhöhle cave.
Great premium hiking trail with moderate gradients, only the descents are sometimes a little steeper. Very varied with great views, such as from Loretta to the Zwiefalten monastery with the Bussen in the background or from the Trinity Cross to Gossenzugen. The path between Wimsen and Gossenzugen through the cut valley along the Zwiefacher Ach is also beautiful. There was of course a lot going on at the Wimsen cave today on Sunday with the beautiful weather, so we decided not to take the boat trip through the cave. At the end of the tour and after visiting the brewery museum, there was a cozy stop at the Zwiefalten brewery restaurant.
Premium hiking trail "Hochgepilgert" Starts at the Wimsen Cave. Beautiful trail with a detour to Zwiefalten. Returns in time for the Butterstollen, which has been ripened on a boat in the cave. Tastes excellent 😋
Today we hiked up the premium hiking trail from the starting point at the Wimsenerhöhle car park. Beautiful, varied hiking trail with EKS in Zwiefalten.
