European Mill Cycle Route - Cycling in the Bliesgau Biosphere

We started this route from the parking lot under the A8 at exit 33 Zweibrücken-Ixheim. First you drive on an old railway to Hornbach, where there is an old monastery and the grave of St. Pirminius. Here you cycle through wet meadows where the storks find plenty of food. Along the way you pass 10 mills, both in Germany and France. Further in France it becomes hillier where you can enjoy beautiful views. We have already driven this route in the past, but it is a route on quiet roads and because it is close to the highway, very suitable as a stopover.

Unfortunately, many country roads on the French side. Actually, I only saw a watermill. Otherwise the route is very nice.

A varied tour in the German / French border area with an intensive visit to the old Hornbach monastery

Today I did a tour recommended by Komot called "Mill Cycle Route and Biosphere Tour". Starting in Rimschweiler, it was a leisurely 10km on tarmac paths, then unfortunately 20km along roads, the remaining 18km alternating between forest paths and roads. The view was very beautiful and the small villages were very interesting, but the route on roads wasn't really my thing

The start and finish was in Rimschweiler at the Hasenheim restaurant. A very scenic bike tour. The tour mainly runs along bike paths and roads with very little traffic. At the end we had a very good meal in the beer garden of the Hasenheim restaurant.

Tour on May 1st with border hopping. Huge spring festival with a folk festival atmosphere in Volmunster. In the Bliesgau through the blooming rapeseed fields. Yellow makes you happy. Temperatures up to 27°, ☀️veiled by Sahara sand.

Since Markus is unfortunately not in top shape again, I was allowed to lead this beautiful tour today. And it was worth it: ten of us were out and about in very pleasant temperatures, with very little wind and the probability of rain was 0 - which was also confirmed. We couldn't actually reach our stop with normal breaks, because at 2 p.m. the Sundays first have a midday rest (actually!) But when we arrived in Altheim at around 2:30 p.m. the pizzeria was still busy. Quickly asked if we could get something to eat with 10 people - of course, said the boss. So we were able to relax 15 km before the end of the tour The rest was then just overcoming: full stomachs don't like to ride uphill - at least that applies to our 3 organic bikers. In the end, however, we were all able to leave ZW safely on the way home.
