Gravel riding

The name of the tour already suggests: Steinberge, more precisely the Leogang Steinberge, are the focus of this tour. In a mix of road, bike path and gravel you will also pass several lakes and through cozy places. Anyroad? Gravel? No matter, the Steinberg Runde is simply a super nice bike tour that is easy to ride on a gravel bike.

The piece out of the Glemmtal is suitable for warming up. At Maishofen, the route leads you to the east side of the Saalachtal and you follow a quiet road that offers an ingenious panorama of the Steinerne Meer. After almost 30 kilometers you will reach Saalfelden, where you can have a short coffee stop. The Saalach valley narrows behind Saalfelden. Through the imposing backdrop, you follow the Tauern cycle path, which runs parallel to the main road - including beautiful gravel sections.

At Lofer you have covered a good half of the route. Here you leave the Saalachtal and follow the bike path into the Strubtal. In the valley you will pass a fortress that marks the border between Tyrol and Salzburg and that has been contested over and over again in history. After the pass it becomes flatter and you reach Waidring, where you branch off into the Pillerseetal. You follow beautiful gravel paths and reach the Pillersee. Here you can fortify yourself at the Seestüberl and of course jump into the water.

We continue on beautiful side streets through a tranquil area. There is no more enjoyable way to move your bike. After you pass the Wiesensee, you will reach Hochfilzen. Now it goes on a long descent - either briskly on the main road or more comfortably on the side roads - rapidly down to Leogang. Immediately afterwards you have reached the Saalachtal again and you can already start thinking about where to end the tour on the already known section.

The Stoissengraben is a large natural playground for the whole family, where you can play in the stream, but also grill a few sausages. A great way to refill the water bottle.

Highlight • Lake

The Grießensee is part of the protected landscape area of the Grießner Moor. Not only countless species of birds breed on this raised moor, but it is also home to many rare and endangered animal and plant species, so that it has now become an important biotope.
