Fantastically beautiful hike. Not too difficult, with a magnificent natural spectacle as the highlight. Since it has rained a lot recently, the waterfall seemed even more impressive.
I have summarized all hikes and even more tips for an active break in St. Johann in Tirol here: https://www.spaness.de/blog/st-johann-in-tirol/
The starting point of today's tour is St. Johann in Tirol. After the beautiful weekly market we went over the Eifersbach waterfall up to the Hornblicksee. Here there is a beautiful view of the valley and the surrounding mountains such as the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbüheler Horn. Even the sun ☀️ showed up briefly ☺️
Eifersbach Waterfall, Hornblicksee & Refreshment at the Eichenhof A varied circular hike from St. Johann with wonderful natural moments: The forest path initially leads quite comfortably to the Eifersbach Waterfall – then things get exciting! A steep, root-filled staircase requires surefootedness and a bit of fitness. The reward at the top is the idyllic Hornblicksee with its fantastic views. The return hike includes a refreshment at the Eichenhof – curd strudel and elderberry water as a sweet finish. Highlights: • Eifersbach Waterfall • Hornblicksee with a view • More challenging section (roots, incline) • Stop at Eichenhof (whirlpool!) Duration: approx. 2-3 hours Length: approx. 9-10 km Elevation gain: approx. 320 m Category: Moderate – sturdy footwear recommended Tip: The roots are slippery when wet – it's best to walk in dry conditions.
At this special spot, raging masses of water shoot 25 meters into the depths. After the rain of the past few days, a powerful spray of wind sprayed our pants, providing a true wildlife experience.
The round car park-waterfall-Hornblicksee-car park is only 7 km long. The rest of the route came about through the detour to downtown St. Johann. It started from the (free) Eichhoflift car park. First following a tar road, then following a gravel forest path, we soon left this path again and hiked along leisurely hiking trails and paths, past the Thalmühlenkapelle and the Theresienbrunnen to the Eifersbacher waterfall. Until then, the route climbs moderately but steadily. The Eifersbach waterfall is well developed and beautiful to look at, but I have already seen more impressive waterfalls. It is definitely a worthwhile excursion destination and there wasn't much going on there today, we had the waterfall to ourselves for a long time. Most of the vertical meters are on the next 300 m. First you have to climb more than 100 steps and then there is a very demanding ascent to the next forest path. But it's all a question of speed. After a short stretch on the forest path, you turn onto the hiking trail to the Hornblicksee, an artificial water reservoir that you can reach after a short time. The Hornblicksee was the real attraction of today due to the great all-round panorama. There are also two relaxation loungers and normal benches for a longer rest. The descent was via a mobile forest path to the valley station of the cable car or Grander Schupf (was closed today). From here it is not far to the parking lot, but we decided to take a tour of downtown St. Johann. After visiting the old town and a refreshment in the cafe, we went on a beautiful path along the Fieberbrunner Ache towards the parking lot. Only the last kilometer led us along a very busy road. You can eat in St. Johann and (when open) in Grander Schupf. There is a large (chargeable) car park in St. Johann so that you can start your tour of the city center directly on site.
