A visit to the cheese school is a great thing, 😋 which I can highly recommend. There are also delicious offerings on the menu.

Trail Reviews

Today we went in the best weather 🌞🌡😎 on Schäfer's footsteps 🚶🏼 ♀️🚶🏼 ♂️🎒. Start was early in the morning from the parking lot 🅿️ near the cheese barn 🧀🏚 in Hungen 🏘 to be back before the midday heat 🥵. The hike is an adventure trail and leads to prominent points around 🔄 around Hungen 🏘, which have to do with sheep 🐑, shepherds and the flora & fauna 🌼⚘️🌾 on nutrient-poor grassland. The circular route is well signposted 🏷↗️, has hardly any differences in height ↕️ and is therefore easy to walk on.

This time we chose the Hungen adventure trail “In Schäfer’s Footsteps” However, we have moved the starting point to Inheiden. The circular route leads past places that are important for sheep breeding and keeping. There are always interesting information boards along the route that provide information about the profession of shepherds, sheep and their importance for nature and the city of Hungen. In Hungen itself there is a cheese dairy that was unfortunately not in operation today. But in the Hungener Käsescheune (in the same building), on the lovingly furnished upper floor, you can get a lot of information about the sheep farm and the shepherds. There is a lot to buy on the topic in the coffee shop and small shop in the basement. Especially interesting cheeses made from cow, sheep and goat milk. A visit to the information room and the shop is definitely worth it. We really liked the route; it was largely easy to walk, except for a few short sections that ran through meadows and on the edge of fields. Surefootedness and sturdy shoes are required here. We learned a lot of new things on the hike and understood some things better. It was a successful day of hiking for us.
