Having become careless due to the dry weather, contrary to the forecast, we tackled the Bleistätter Moor Slow Trail after our return to Lake Ossiach. Unfortunately, the floodgates of heaven opened, which is why many of the pictures are rainy. But the moor with its many bird species was still worth a visit.
The Slow Trail Bleistätter Moor leads through the species-rich nature, landscape and European conservation area of the mouth of the Tiebel and offers insights into the habitat of around 100 different bird species, butterflies, bats and beavers. This easy circular tour (also suitable for Nordic walking and running) is very flat along the eastern shore of Lake Ossiach and leads through the Bleistätter Moor, which has been flooded since 2017; after about 7 kilometers (max. 2 hours walking time) you get back to the starting point. The tour starts on the Domenig Steinhaus cycle path, where you branch off onto the Promenadenweg and walk along the shore to the Steindorf shipping pier. Here you hike along Seestraße for a few meters in a northerly direction and cross the stream on a small bridge. Follow the shore path back towards the lake. Here there is a play area for children and a public toilet facility. A small connecting path takes you to the beach path, which you follow in a northerly direction to Gasthof Laggner. This is also where the dam path towards the Bleistätter Moor begins. After a few minutes' walk, the asphalt road turns into a gravel footpath (path no. 1). Along the dam path there are two lookout towers from which you can watch the numerous inhabitants of the Bleistätter Moor. At the end of the dam path, before the second bridge, you turn off in the direction of Prefelnig (path no. 2) and after a few minutes you cross the state road. Follow the path in the direction of Prefelnig or Tiffen/Feldkirchen. The bridge over the Tiebelbach is crossed and immediately afterwards you turn off again in the direction of Steindorf (path no. 2A). The state road is crossed again before you reach the rest area at the beginning of the gravel dam path. The Domenig Steinhaus is the shortest route via the cycle path. Remarks: No winter service along the Slow Trail, which means that it is very icy and snowy in places. Cyclists are not allowed to drive on the eastern part of the Slow Trail, please push your bike here. With this in mind, we wish you a lot of fun with our tour. Eva & Roland
The Slow Trails are family hiking trails through which you can experience the typologies of the Carinthian lake landscape. They stand for "slow motion" instead of "high speed" and offer leisurely, relaxed hiking that takes care of the landscape and yourself. They are well-maintained paths and therefore easy to walk on; at the same time they lead to scenically special places with lake touches. The beaver successfully eluded my camera, as did the kingfisher, which posed fantastically in the sunlight. Exciting, on the other hand, was the evening walk across the campsite... countless small and large frogs transformed the paths into funny courses for people 😍😃.
