Hiking

Gourmets and mountain climbers will find what they are looking for on the alpine pasture hike to the Lärchenbergalm. How does that fit together? We'll explain it to you. In any case, the tour runs through the picturesque Windau Valley. And there's not much to say about that from our side, except: enjoy it!

The tour starts at Gasthaus Steinberg near Westendorf. This is where the tour ends again, so you will have enough time later to indulge in the local delicacies. But the hiking trail first leads you further into the Windau Valley. First along lush green alpine pastures, then through a beautiful forest.

You reach the Wallneralm and from there follow a wonderfully natural forest path. A forest road soon takes over and leads you in serpentines uphill to the junction "Sauwegl". You will still have a piece of the forest before it merges into open alpine pastures and leads you to the Lärchenbergalm. With a little luck, “Alminger” Sepp Kahn will be at home. The author spends his summers up here, writes short stories, produces cheese ... And that's exactly what you can try up here. In any case, you deserve a break before your return trip!

Yes, and if that wasn't enough hiking enjoyment, you can also conquer a summit from here! We just packed the Lodron into the tour for you, whether you actually hike it is up to you. Just so much in advance: On the summit there is one of the most beautiful summit crosses in the whole of Brixental and the view has washed itself. Summiteer or not: From the Lärchenbergalm a common path leads back to the starting point.

A striking summit cross marks the summit of Lodron at 1,925 meters. From here you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Hohe Tauern, covered with glaciers, up to the Wilder Kaiser.

Great colors in autumn, wonderful view. My dog runs almost continuously without a leash.

Lärchenbergalm

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Austrian writer Sepp Kahn lives on the Lärchenbergalm in the summer months. The 67-year-old is considered a representative of ironic-rural literature. Maybe you will find him at his summer home and you can philosophize with him about his anecdotes and stories.

Along the Windauer Ache

Highlight (Segment) • River

It ripples peacefully next to you, this extremely beautiful torrent. Sometimes you come closer to its bank, sometimes it is a little further away while you walk along this path. The pure idyll!
