The Hohe Bracht (588m) on the eastern edge of the Ebbegebirge in the Sauerland is a popular excursion destination, not least because of the 36m high observation tower built in 1930 with an adjoining restaurant. From the tower you can enjoy the unobstructed view of the Ebbegebirge, the Lennebergland and Homert as well as the Siegerland.
If the beautiful view alone is not enough, we recommend a short hike on the A28 circular hiking trail run by the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV). The tour can be comfortably hiked in an hour and a half and is also suitable for families with children.
The A28 begins directly at the Hohe Bracht observation tower and initially heads north to just before the road between Bilstein and Altenhundem. Then it goes through the forests in the Bilsteiner Bergland back to the summit of the Hohe Bracht.
Background information on the Hohen Bracht (taken from the online encyclopedia Wikipedia): "The broadcast of the opening ceremony on October 12, 1930 was an anniversary for Westdeutscher Rundfunk." This is the Langenberg station. We'll be back with the broadcast of the celebration on the occasion of the Inauguration of the observation tower on the Hohen Bracht near Altenhundem ", was the announcement by the spokesman Dr. Ernst from Westdeutscher Rundfunk. These were the first words that came from the Sauerland over the airwaves. During the Second World War, the building was the scene of in April 1945 The war damage was repaired in 1947 and the building was reopened as a lookout tower and district youth home. The lookout tower and the outdoor facilities of the summit region were extensively restored in the summer of 2017. The innovations relate in particular to the catering area on the ground floor, the creation of a multifunctional area for outdoor events and the renovation of the Parking lots and Access to the tower.

The circular tour around the HOHE BRACHT was easy to walk thanks to well-prepared and marked paths, even with some icy passages 👍 The views were simply amazing thanks to the bright blue sky 🤩 and the route we chose was not very popular despite it being Sunday and the excellent weather 🫠 The other well-marked paths that started from there also seemed to be well-prepared, so men and women 🤭 were spoiled for choice 💁♂️🙆♀️😉
The A 28 is a beautiful medium-difficulty route that starts right at the Hohe Bracht car park. The length of the route is given as 4.7 KM, but it should be corrected, as is easy to see. At the moment, however, various disabilities are to be expected due to the pending forest work.
Final round of our girls' weekend at the Hohe Bracht 😌🫶🏻
A quick walk to stretch my legs after the Altena circular trail the day before. A beautiful area I hadn't seen before, with many panoramic views. I'll look for something similar there. Just like the day before, I noticed: the wild boars had stirred everything up. 😱🤦
After our "feeder" had a long break due to illness, the doctor finally gave the go-ahead for a little walk. Finally! Let the dogs loose...!!! A walk on the "Hohen Bracht" in this wonderful winter magic did us all good. Fiete and I led our two-legged friends on a little "deep snow walk" around the Hohe Bracht. See you soon, your Bruno 🐾🐾
