Gravel riding

Once around Vienna on all kinds of routes - Anyroad. You start on the Wienfluss cycle path and after a short warm-up phase turn into the 13th district. Here things are going pretty briskly on asphalt. The short stretch to reach the Liesingbach Cycle Path is not very quiet in terms of traffic, but for a few kilometers it is quite relaxed on gravel and asphalt to Schwechat.

In Schwechat you follow the bike path along the river and you will soon reach the Freudenau power plant, where you will cross over to the Danube Island. Immediately afterwards you come to the Lobau, which you cross on beautiful gravel paths. Now it goes through the 22nd district. First on asphalt and gravel, but suddenly you dive into a single trail that takes you further towards the Marchfeld Canal. At the canal, it goes quickly on fast gravel in the direction of the Danube.

Now you can relax a little on the Danube Island and on the piece in the direction of Klosterneuburg. The climbing begins in Klosterneuburg. First on asphalt to Weidlingbach and then continue on the gravel road through the Dombachgraben. On the Sophienalpe, the highest point of the tour with a great view of Vienna, it is worth taking a break. Now it's all downhill on gravel to Hütteldorf and back to the starting point via the Wienfluss Cycle Path.

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This is a beautiful cycle route that leads along the Liesingbach through a scenic area. The route is about three kilometers long and has little difference in elevation. You can also take a longer version that goes to Schwechat and on to the Danube. Have fun cycling! 🚲

Marchfeld Canal

Highlight • River

A great connection for cyclists from the Danube through the 21st district to the north of Vienna. Mostly gravel paths lead along the canal, which was originally created for irrigation. A very beautiful natural space in the middle of the city! You can drive over the other sections to Schloss Hof, near the Slovakian border.

You can find a detailed description of the cycle path here: donau.com/de/donau-niederoesterreich.

Trail Reviews

Ben
July 1, 2021, Anyroad rund um Wien

Once around Vienna. Well, we didn't take the city limits very precisely. On the whole, however, it turned out to be a cool, varied Anyroad tour with only a few minor flaws. The section through Speising and Mauer could be optimized a bit. It was good to ride on the Liesingbach Cycle Path, but there is certainly a lot more going on here on the weekend. Translating over the tracks in 22en, at Telephonweg, was stupid because the crossing was blocked by construction work. Better drive further east here. The further route along the Marchfeld Canal and via Klosterneuburg and Weidlingbach was already known and nice to drive. Finally, we stopped at the highly recommended Weidäcker shelter.
