View of Monsal Head and the Headstone Viaduct

Highlight • Viewpoint

Monsal Head is one of the most photographed viewpoints in Derbyshire – and for good reason! Overlooking the impressive Headstone Viaduct crossing the picturesque Monsal Dale, it truly is a wonder to behold. You can stop for food and drink at the Monsal Head Hotel and there is usually an ice cream van parked here.

Tideswell Village

Highlight • Religious Site

Lovely touristy village with an impressive church (The Cathedral of the Peak), pubs and a good (for the size of place) selection of take away shops and cafes. Good place to stop for a rest on a ride.

View of Rushup Edge

Highlight • Viewpoint

Without doubt one of the best views around for miles. If you have arrived there from climbing up Mam Nick it makes it all the more rewarding.

Mam Tor South Face

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Short and sweet climb to the top of Mam Tor. Seems almost easy in comparison to the neighbouring Winnats pass or Mam Nick.

To reach the hill's summit you'll need to climb off and shoulder or push your bike as it's a footpath to the top.

Mam Nick Climb

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Great views to the south as you come out into the open at the top and you can see the old road that was closed in 1979 when the landslips on Mam Tor finally won out. On your right is Kinder Scout, the site of a mass trespass in 1932 in rebellion against the lack of access to open countryside.

It's back out to Edale for this classic Century ride that loops across the entirety of the Peak District before a tidy turn in the idyllic (if not slightly over popular) town of Matlock.

Enjoy the first leg of the loop as it swerves southwards on quick-rolling lanes. After a brief pause at Matlock Bath
