Rotwandalm: MTB to alpine pastures

The tour to the Rotwandalm at the farthest end of the Windau Valley – one of the three side valleys of the Brixental Valley – is a delight for all the senses. Located at the very back of the valley, with magnificent views, is the Rotwandalm. Here, cheese is still made according to old traditions and is served on the menu alongside other regional delicacies. The food selection isn't extensive, but it's all the more delicious.

You start in Westendorf and cycle leisurely along the Windauer Ache stream into the picturesque Windautal Valley. There are no significant climbs until you reach the Steinberg Inn, so you can fully enjoy the beautiful scenery. The route now climbs gently as you cycle along the Windautaler Ache stream through forests and alpine pastures. After the Gamskogel Hut, the trail becomes steeper for a short stretch, then descends briefly again. You now cross the Windautaler Ache stream. From here, a moderate climb awaits you, steadily climbing through alpine pastures to the "Schreier Bründl." Now it's a short, gentle downhill stretch to the Rotwandalm.

Return along the same path, past the Gamskogelhütte and the Steinberg Inn, where you might want to try the homemade ice cream on the terrace. From here, continue down the valley on the paved, quiet road back to the start. Tip: You can also spend the night at the alpine pasture.
