Hiking
Around the village of Krün, you'll find several picturesque forest and mountain lakes. On our circular tour, you'll visit Lake Barmsee, Lake Geroldsee, and Lake Grubsee. These three lakes are nestled in tranquil forests and all offer magnificent mountain panoramas. This hike is particularly beautiful in autumn, when the larches and deciduous trees along the lake shores slowly change color. Since this tour features only well-maintained paths and low elevation gain, it's also ideal for a family hike.
The starting point of the tour is the center of Krün, easily accessible via the bus stop of the same name. From there, you'll hike along Krottenkopfstraße on well-maintained paths past fields and meadows toward Lake Barmsee. The trail soon leads you into a sparse forest, and shortly after, you'll find yourself on the shore of the picturesque Lake Barmsee. The view over the water and the towering mountain backdrop beyond is simply magnificent.
Follow the path westward along the lake shore. A gentle walking path leads you along the lake for a while. Then you follow the signpost towards Gerold. Initially flat, then later up a short, steep, and very steep climb, the path leads you out of the forest, offering stunning views of the Wetterstein Mountains and Lake Gerold, nestled in a vast meadow landscape. You then pass the village of Gerold and walk across meadows along a track to Klais. Here, a hiking trail branches off towards Lake Grubsee. The small lake Grubsee is surrounded by dense forest, which, when the wind is calm, is picturesquely reflected in the water. From there, follow the hiking trail towards Krün back to the starting point.
