Gravel riding
The tour is a prime example of the fact that there are hardly any limits on a gravel bike. The route alternates several times between gravel and asphalt and also includes a short, flowing trail section. The altitude profile of the route is wavy and not only promises a lot of variety in terms of landscape.
The route initially leads via bike paths to the outskirts and then via the bike path on the banks of the Saalach into neighboring Bavaria. On beautiful forest paths you drive in the forest along the Högl, a small ridge near the border, and collect the first meters in altitude. After a brisk gravel descent, it goes wavy past several small places until you finally reach the Höglwörther See. The gravel passage after the lake is somewhat reminiscent of Strade Bianche and makes gravel hearts beat faster.
Shortly before the municipality of Teisendorf you turn into a forest and follow a flowing trail. After this short trail pleasure, you avoid Teisendorf and follow the route alternately on gravel and asphalt to Schönram. There you can recharge your batteries in the garden of the Schönram brewery - half of it is done.
The second part of the tour is also very varied. After a short detour into the forest near Schönram, the route leads you over back roads and narrow paths to a wooded hill. Idyllic forest roads are waiting for you there, but you have to collect a few more meters in altitude. With a lot of mud on the tires, it's back to the state border and then back to Salzburg on the bike path.
