The trails of Lanaken, called Lanaken green, first take you through the wet (and also green) Valley of the Ziepbeek. The valley is muddy and swampy in places due to the seepage water that is pushed out of the ground here due to the geological conditions. In wet conditions you are therefore happy with voluminous tires with a lot of grip.
The valley offers a special nature with the typical fauna and flora of the heath. Party on the Rekem trail! It is especially beautiful from mid-August to mid-September - when the heather is in full bloom.
The Pietersembos also offers a natural spectacle. The forest used to be part of the castle domain of Pietersheim, now insects and birds are masters here. A lovely trail runs along the crystal clear water in the Asbeek. One of many on the brilliant loop.
You can easily shorten the 26 kilometer loop with this Highlight: https://www.komoot.nl/highlight/3807616. You then cut off quite a bit over the Molenbergstraat.
The Lanaken green loop connects to: Zutendaal blue and Maasmechelen red. Starting places for this loop are: Camping Kikmolen and Petting Zoo Pietersheim.

Unexpectedly beautiful route. For a green route, the 2nd part is somewhat challenging. Here it runs parallel to the red route and you clearly notice that. I had an absolute beginner with me and he wasn't very happy with it at times. For a more advanced rider it is a lot of fun. This route also has a very high percentage of off-road with nice stretches of single track. Didn't expect me to say this: highly recommended. I will return. Not super spectacular, but very nice. (Wait until the mud has dried a bit. Because it looks like it would be much less pleasant otherwise.)
