Hiking
A few meters behind the national park information point, leave the asphalt road and follow hiking trail 481, past the eagle observation point until you reach the crossroads at the Lahnwald service hut. Continue straight on there, and also straight on at the next crossroads until you reach a slight incline. Just before the road, keep left and follow the path for the last few meters until you see the suspension bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the path to the Engert national park information point. From there, turn left again from the asphalt road onto the hiking trail - now over somewhat steeper sections - and continue to the Bindalm.
From there, you have the option of continuing to hike to the Austrian border crossing at the Hirschbichl Pass or you can go back to the starting point on the same route.
Note: It is possible to take the Almerlebnisbus (May - October) to the Bindalm and back.
BEST MONTHS: all year round
REQUIREMENTS: mountain boots, good physical condition
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: easy, but long hike with a moderate gradient
Please note that the difficulty information on the tour portals and signposts in the area can differ from one another. Your tour planning should be adapted to your physical condition, which is why we ask you to always take all factors into account and not to ignore the signs in the area!

Today we went on a hike through the national park. We started at the Hintersee parking lot. From there, the trails were flat to the suspension bridge. To cross it, we had to climb the first few meters. The bridge, built in 2010, and over the Klausbach stream. Then came a few nice climbs that led us along wide paths to the Bindalm. The alpine pasture is quaint, rustic, and run by friendly people.
The hike through part of the Klausbach valley was the culmination of a great holiday. The landscape is simply breathtaking. The valley with its trees, the stream with the suspension bridge and the rugged rocks on the left and right of the path. So far I have only experienced a similarly beautiful area in national parks in the USA.
Travel from Bad Reichenhall by bus via Berchtesgaden and Hirschsee to Hirschbichl From here it's almost all downhill past the Bindalm (great hosts, both around 80 years old, and it's worth stopping by) along the shady forest paths to the Adlerblick (unfortunately we didn't see any) and on to the Hirschsee with a stop and then a return journey by bus. Overall a very nice and relaxing hike.
Easy hike on well-developed paths. At the end a beautiful little alpine pasture with a view of the golden eagle area. The signs after 90% inspection guarantee 😉
Last day of the year, last highlight of 2024. What a beautiful ending starting at the National Park House and continuing through a frozen magical world to the suspension bridge and further to the Bindalm. Back again after a well-deserved break. I wish everyone a good, healthy and active 2025.
Our introductory tour, due to the weather. 31 degrees and sometimes only sun.
Gone with the wind is how you could describe the tour, as there was a strong foehn storm on the way to Bindalm. Once there, I and my cell phone went into a real pink heather frenzy.
Tour 2 from August 14th, 2024. After we had passed through the gorge in Weissbach, we took the bus back. I then got off at Hirschbichel and then hiked to Hintersee. I actually wanted to make a stop at Bindalm, but unfortunately it was so crowded there in the wonderful weather that I continued hiking straight through to Hintersee and then treated myself to a nice Berchtesgaden beer 🍺.
