Hiking
The path begins in Castell at the end of the village in the direction of Greuth. This is exactly where the princely palace garden is located, which is accessible to below the palace and is therefore always worth a detour. Further along the TraumRunde you pass the Kneipp facility until you finally reach the Hohnart vineyards. With a look back to Castell with its castle, church and castle ruins, the hiker is already rewarded. Further around the wine village of Greuth, the path leads up to the Steigerwaldanhöhen, where a wonderful view of the Steigerwald foreland awaits the hiker. After a long section of forest, the path leads back towards Wüstenfelden, past the idyllic Tränksee. Now one highlight follows the next: along the ramparts and moats of the two historic Casteller castles, one arrives at the vantage point, which was awarded the title of “Germany's most beautiful wine view” in 2012. Finally you reach the ruins of Castell Castle before going downhill to the starting point.

We went hiking again today. 1,111 mosquitoes 🦟 like that. 👍 On the way on the Castell dream circuit. The route begins in the wine-growing town of Castell. The 1st Silvaner in Germany was planted here in 1659. The wine village of Greuth is hiked around and the further path leads through vineyards and forests. We walk past Wüstenfelden to the Tränksee. We continue to Germany's most beautiful wine view in 2012. After walking up and down narrow forest paths, we reach the ruins of Castell Castle on the Schlossberg. From here it goes downhill back to Castell. Here we pass the parish church and the wine museum. We end the afternoon in the beer garden of the Landgasthof zum Storch in Wüstenfelden.
Nice round in the Franconian wine country. Castell is a very nice place with great half-timbered houses. But 80% of the round goes over wide field and forest paths. The last 3-4km have a larger proportion of single trails and offer more variety.
Beautiful hiking tour with the family through the colorful vineyards and autumnal forests around Castell. We saw the tour at Söhni and followed it.
🚀 Let's go hiking 🅿️ parking lot above Castell at 🌤 +19° Celsius. First we go through the 🍂 forest of leaves towards Tränksee. The water ✨ sparkles and reflects the sunlight. We leave the lake on the right and follow the 🥾🥾 hiking trail. It goes across country, over hill and dale. Another bend before the path ends in the forest of leaves and from then on it rises moderately but steadily to the highest point of the hike to the ⛰ Friedrichsberg. From up here you have a 🤩 fantastic view over the wide landscape and the colorful vineyards. A narrow gravel path leads down towards Castell. We 🔄 walk around the sports field of TSV Castell and continue towards the 🏰 castle. The path leads straight through the castle garden before it goes up to the ⛰ Mahrenberg. Past the point "Most beautiful wine view 2012 Franconia" you go back to the 📍starting point 🅿️🏁 Maybe the 🥾🥾 hike may seem familiar to one or the other. Yes, that's right, that was our tour together 🛡 Hiking in Franconia 3.0 🛡
Nice loop through vineyards and forest. Couple of beautiful prospects. Currently some sections are very slippery due to the weather. Open your eyes in the forest through the storm. Sometimes there are even larger branches on the way.
The weather was pleasant. When arriving, please check the day of the week and the opening hours of the restaurant. The Hotel "Schwarzer Adler" is highly recommended as an overnight accommodation. It was definitely a dream tour. If you take your time, you can enjoy the tour from every perspective. Many winegrowers are currently harvesting their crops. At many key locations, there are signs pointing to the upcoming Wine Hiking Day (October 5, 2025).
Tour better the other way around, a bit too many long forest paths
The "Dream Round Castell" is one of 15 dream rounds - hiking trails in the Kitzinger Land. The tour around Castell was great with the highlights of the Silvaner monument, Frankenblick, Tränksee, Castell ruins, the "most beautiful wine view in Germany 2012" and the court linden tree with the wild tulips on the Schlossberg. The weather was fantastic: on the one hand there was still snow from the onset of winter, on the other hand the delicate green of spring. And absolutely clear air and intense light for bright colors.
