Hiking
The Spiez circular hiking trail allows you to explore the diverse nature and beautiful landscape around Spiez. The path is excellently developed and also suitable for families with prams. Since the path leads past bus stops again and again, you can shorten the tour as you wish. As befits a circular route, the Spiezer circular route can of course also be hiked in the opposite direction.
The circular hiking trail begins at the Schlosspark in Spiez and is divided into four parts. The first part, the Strandweg, leads you from the castle park along the bank to the Faulensee pier. Along the beach path you can discover various sculptures on the subject of “Miracles of Bern”. Because the German national soccer team stayed in Spiez in 1954.
Then the high path begins, which leads you from the bank up into the Seeholzwald and then with a great view to Spiezwil. The Spiezwilerweg, the third section, runs through small forest areas and brings you back to the lake shore. This is where the fourth and last part of the tour begins, the vine path. Wine has been grown on the sun-drenched slopes of the Spiezer Rebberg for centuries. The process of growing wine over the course of the year is also told on several information boards. More information can be found at https://www.spiez.ch/de/gemeinde/tourismus-freizeit/Erlebnispfad-Spiezer-Rebberg.php.

It rained lightly in the morning today, the forecast for the afternoon was better, cloudy but no rain. So we decided to do "something easy". We decided to do a circular hike around Spiez. Park our car in one of the many paid parking spaces near Spiez Castle, the parking fee here is a whopping 2 francs per hour... We start a little below the castle park in Spiez. We have a total of four sections ahead of us. The first part, the beach path, leads us from the castle park along the shore to the Faulensee landing stage. Along the beautiful beach path we pass three sculptures of the German national team from 1954 (Fritz Walter, Helmut Rahn and Sepp Herberger). The "Miracle of Bern" comes back to us like this, after all, the national team had their quarters in Spiez at the time. After we had also taken a short break on the lakeside path and nibbled our Landjäger and the mountain cheese, we continued on to the second section, the Höhenweg. We walk up from the shore into the Seeholzwald, which then leads us to Spiezwil with a great view. The Spiezwilerweg, the third section, runs through small wooded areas. It's amazing the variety of landscapes you can see here in just one hike. We walk through the small village and then find a small self-service shop. We buy Swiss honey and two delicious ice creams for our walk... Now we continue towards Lake Thun. This is where the fourth and last part of the tour begins, the Rebenweg. Wine has been cultivated on the sun-kissed slopes of the Spiez Rebberg for centuries. The process of growing wine over the course of the year is also explained on several information boards. The special thing about this is that Switzerland is actually not a wine-growing country and you can only buy very few Swiss wines. The vineyards are wonderful to look at, with Spiez Castle always in the background, a really beautiful sight. We stroll the rest of the way to the castle park, look around there for a while, of course take our photos and our circular hike is over...
