Mountain biking

This demanding tour takes you directly from the sunny city of Freiburg to the local mountain Schauinsland and the best trails in the area. These were built by the Freiburg Mountain Bike Association partly with the help of Canadian trail construction professionals and are just fun!

But before the trail fun begins, you deserve a few meters of altitude. From Freiburg you first drive more or less parallel to the Schauinslandstraße until you reach the valley station of the Schauinslandbahn. If you don't have that much time or your strength for the trails
want to save, you have the opportunity to use the cable car here - bicycles are also transported in the gondolas.

If you decide to conquer the mountain on your own, you will be rewarded with a great view from time to time until you finally reach the top. The Schauinsland Tower is the perfect place for a little break before you rush back to Freiburg via the "Badish Moon Rising" Flowtrail and the "Canadian Trail".

Tip:
The "Canadian Trail" is quite demanding and not so well suited for beginners. However, there are always opportunities to switch from trails to wide trails.

Junction to the Schauinslandbahn

Highlight • Rest Area

If you want to drive on the beautiful trails and trails around the Schauinsland and start from Freiburg, first a lot of altitude is announced. A short round is hardly possible - except, you take some help for the Uphill!

The Schauinslandbahn is Germany's longest cabin circulating cable car and it brings you comfortably up. A maximum of two bikes per cabin will be taken and this service can also be royally paid: In addition to the passenger transport fee of 9.50 euros are again 10.50 euros for the bike due. The train runs in the summer from 9 to 18 o'clock. In off-season, the operating hours vary. You can find all information here: schauinslandbahn.de.

Schauinsland Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

Over 85 steps you reach the 22 meter high viewing platform of the Schauinsland Tower, actually called "Eugen-Keidel Tower". In good weather you can look into the Vosges and the Swiss Alps. The tower is always open.

Badish Moon Rising Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Super flowiger Trail from Schauinsland direction Freiburg. Created by Canadian trail farmers quite new and therefore great to drive. The trail is only about 250 meters in altitude and has short intermediate climbs, but overall is extremely fun and fluid to drive - in my opinion, the top trail in the area!

Kybfelsen Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

On the 810 meter high rock there was a castle in the twelfth century, but there is almost nothing left of it. Thanks to the view, a stop on the foothills of the Schauinsland is still worthwhile. In good weather you have a great view of Freiburg and Günterstal.

Canadian Trail (Freiburg)

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

The Canadian Trail was built by Mountainbike Freiburg e.V. in collaboration with four Canadian trail building professionals and is a really great flow trail with its fun course and countless built banked curves. And that's very official - not at all a given in the Black Forest.

It starts at the Kybfelsensattel, the finish is above the Sternwaldwiese right on the outskirts of Freiburg. There is a moderate uphill more or less parallel to the descent, so you can reach the start of the trail directly from Freiburg. If you want to do a longer ride, you can pedal up to Schauinsland and join the "Badishmoon Trail" there, which leads into the "Canadian Trail". That makes for around twelve kilometers of the finest mountain bike fun!

Trail Reviews

Tonio
March 21, 2024, Trailtour zum Schauinsland – MTB Trail-Touren im Schwarzwald

Great tour with great trails. For me it's impossible to do without an e-bike, as there are very steep and technical climbs and the "BadischMoonRising" often requires uphill climbs.

Translated by Google

The mountain bike tour was very demanding, while the tour up to the Brocken was a walk in the park. The tour started out very easy with dirt roads, then went up to category 1-2 for mountain bikes, sometimes with very steep passages with rocks and roots. A breathtaking view from above.

Tour from the car park of the gondola station to the Schauinsland. After a short push, there are good signage with blue arrows on a yellow background. First forest roads up along valleys typical of the Black Forest. In front of the Schauinsland summit there was a lot of climbing on rocky and steep trails. Once at the top, you were rewarded with the best view. The Badish Moonrising trail began shortly after the summit station. First rocky downhill then alternating up & down with a really cool flow to the Kypfelsen. In a few passages, the trail/climb is shared with hikers. After the Kypfelsen the Canadian trail begins, which is divided into 9 sections. The first are quite rough and rocky with rocky steep passages. Down below it becomes more and more flowy including tables and kickers. The allegedly most flowy part, section 8+9, was closed due to trail work. Oh well, next time😜 From Sternwaldwiese on forest paths to Günterstal, from there on the bike path back to start. Praise to the Canadian trail builders👍🆓 trailing in BW

The two trails were again a highlight from the top. About 1000hm and 11km down. In between uphill passages, small stretches. Rocky, stepy, roots, flowing. Everything included. It was nice
