Brauhausbiker meet Sauerland Möhnetal cycle path Day 2 - the Möhne from the source to the mouth After breakfast we rolled comfortably towards the Möhne spring, as the spring cannot be reached directly by bike, we could have saved ourselves that. But no matter, we then drove directly to the start of the Möhnetalradweg (Brilon station). From there we rolled on a great bike path to the east bank. We drove on to the Möhnesee tower along the lake. Then we took a break in the TORHAUS Möhnesee. Strengthened and in a good mood, we reached the Möhne reservoir a short time later. A gigantic structure ... After crossing the dam, we almost only rolled downhill to the Möhne estuary in Neheim. The return journey by train went smoothly and we ended the evening with us in the brewery ...
Just from Brilon to Möhnesee and from there to Neheim. A very idyllic route and also well suited for families. Hardly needed E 💪 and only slight inclines. All in all a nice tour 😃 👍 ☀ in the best weather 🌞🌞🌞
Today Arnsberg again, then by rail replacement service to Meschede and by DB to Brilon. Short round through the city and beautifully downhill on a railway cycle path along the meandering Möhne. After approx. 40 km, the Möhnesee lake appears and again long downhill. Got the train after waiting 10 minutes and see what DB has ready.
Today I checked off the next river cycle path. First, I took the train to Brilonwald and from there to the source of the Möhne – a brutal 1.5 km climb, gravel, 8-10%. Nobody needs it, especially at the beginning. The source area is nicely done, and the descent to Brilon is really beautiful, just forest and gravel paths. I meandered along the eastern edge of Brilon – the right decision. Leaving Brilon, I continued on well-paved cycle paths through the Möhne Valley, much of it an old railway line. At Lake Möhne, I opted for the southern bypass – again the right choice. It's 6-7 km longer than the northern route, but beautiful thanks to the forests and the cycle path away from roads. After crossing the dam and having a small snack, I continued via Niederense to Neheim, where the Möhne flows into the Ruhr. From the dam, the bike path runs directly along the road. 12 km of downhill, but also unspectacular 🤷🏻♂️ Bottom line: Great day trip, the path to the spring is very strenuous, the last 10 km along the country road aren't very scenic, but the bike path along the shore of Lake Möhne is fantastic. It's worth it 👍🏻 https://youtu.be/mFCYuurLZ9Y?si=q_4B_TicKL_BkVWU
Easy tour, from Brilon to Möhnesee almost no inclines. The Möhnetal bike tour starts right at the Brilon train station. As far as Warstein Allendorf, the route runs mainly on old track, and sections of the route are also very varied and have a lot to discover for children.
A great day on and with the Möhne! The cycle path is very well-developed and, with the exception of a few inclines, leads downhill in a pleasant manner. The Möhnesee is always very beautiful, and stopping at the gatehouse is simply a must. Since the weather was also fantastic, today was a perfect cycling day! The detour to Rüthen isn't part of the cycle path; I included that. 😉
This was a dress rehearsal for us. We have never cycled 70 km before. Regarding the Möhnetal cycle path, I have to say that the beginning and a large part of the end are not nice, as it always runs along the main road. So this route needs to be revised again. We managed the 74 km well.
The Möhne Valley Cycle Path leads from the mouth of the Möhne into the Ruhr in Neheim-Hüsten to Brilon to the source area. You should save the source area for the next day so that you have enough time to admire the old town with its well-preserved architecture from earlier centuries, especially the half-timbered ensemble on the market square. The tour runs along former railway lines through beautiful nature. A highlight was the approximately 1 km long, sometimes steep uphill ride to the Möhne Tower. After climbing the 206 steps, you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the Möhnesee.
