The Extratour Milseburg takes us back to the exciting past of the Rhön. As is so often the case, the path is the goal. The tour impressively shows how varied the Rhön is.
We start at the Danzwiesen hiking car park. Along the archeological nature trail we learn impressive facts about the settlement history of the Rhön. So we quickly approach the 835 m high summit of the Milseburg with the crucifixion group and St. Gangolf chapel. We enjoy the panoramic view from the treeless summit. Pure nature then presents itself to us in the forest on the steep slopes of the Milseburg, which is interspersed with numerous rock formations. This core zone of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön is allowed to develop without human use.
On the extra tour we hike over the Stellberg and dive into the original mixed deciduous forest. At the large basalt block debris heap in the summit area we experience a magnificent view of the Fuldaer Land down to the Rhön river Bieber.
The nature experience continues: Around the basalt mountain Maulkuppe, the "land of open distances" amazes us with changing panoramic views of the Rhönberge before the extra tour returns to the starting point.
Tip: Make sure you plan enough time to visit the Milseburg. The excavation finds and the reconstruction of the ring wall clearly show how important the Celtic settlement at the foot of the mountain was.

08/28/2024 Tour No. 063 circular hike Extra tour Milseburg Parking: Milseburg car park Start: 06:10 at 14° back at 10:57 at 26° Running time: 02:46 hours Total time 04:47 hours 11.9 km The tour runs mainly through the forest on beautiful hiking trails and paths. In between there is also open space with beautiful panoramic views, I made a detour to the summit of the Milseburg with sunrise, you also walk a bit on the Milseburg painter's circular trail and the art mile. I took a short break at the Hauenstein rest area. This is a moderately difficult hike, Sturdy shoes and a good level of fitness would be advisable, The paths and trails are mostly easy to walk on
Today we went into the snow again, we did another "Extra Tour" - this time the "Extra Tour - Milseburg", which led us to the Milseburg and over the Stellberg.❄👏🏼😊 The symbol on the signposts was identical to yesterday, always follow the red "M".👍🏼 The Sculptor Days 2008 brought it to the point today with the topic "Nebelwelten". ☺️ The fog was omnipresent today, so that we again had a distant view over the hilly Rhön.😔🤷🏼♀️ It was nice anyway. 😊 We would love to come back to the Rhön again, then at a different time of the year...
Hello everyone! Today we hiked our fifth tour in sunshine. The weather was kind to us. We started from the free Milseburg/Himmelsschauplatz parking lot. There is a construction site in front of Milseburg, and a short detour is signposted. Since today is a public holiday and no work is being done, we took the normal route. I really enjoyed the tour, especially the root and stone paths. Information at: https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/hessen/extratour-milseburg/ Description: Milseburg Rhön Extra Tours A hike through picturesque forest and open field passages whose beautiful images will remain in your memory. Magnificent views, rock formations, a true summit experience, natural waterways, and restaurants along the way are just a few aspects of this extra tour, completely redesigned in 2016. Cheers and cheers! Joe
Another very nice extra tour with fantastic weather! 🌞 The Milseburg itself was well attended, but on the way there was plenty of forest and peace and quiet.
Weather mixed, but the reward with a rainbow 🌈. Great round, up and down. Fantastic views. It's worth it
Very well signposted, varied hiking trail ⛰️
Was a nice round, but still quite icy above.... ❄️
The first of the Rhön extra tours! The new project has started. First of all I would like to say that this tour is a CLEAR RECOMMENDATION !!! For everyone who has some hiking experience and surefootedness, and who can cope with many climbs. It runs over almost no asphalt, always varied paths, also many that are more similar to alpine paths. Apart from that, the views are excellent, especially those on the Stellberg and on the Milseburg. This is maybe THE BEST TOUR I have ever done in the Rhön. Greetings 🙋♂️
