Experience the Black Forest from its original side, while time and time again a cuckoo clock catches our eye. Without a doubt, the name of the Clock Forest Trail says it all. When a marble run comes into play, the hike through the wild side of the Black Forest becomes a no-brainer. We hadn't walked 20m when the children discovered the first cuckoo clock. We had only been walking for 5 minutes when we crossed a small wooden bridge and discovered the marble run behind it. In the middle of the forest on a somewhat steeper climb, the marble run invites the children to literally run up the hill. Time and time again the marble whizzed past us at breakneck speed. Closely followed by the children. What fun on the approximately 200m long track that zigzagged downwards. Here and there the sun's rays flash through, we walk on the forest floor as if on cloud nine when we finally leave the small patch of forest. In front of us is a huge meadow with a picnic area. We've only just started walking, but we just can't turn down this invitation to a picnic. We continue uphill, up the Rohrhardsberg. Only the attentive hikers continue to discover all the cuckoo clocks along the way. The clocks are simply amazing: in every color and shape you can imagine. The clocks alone make the climb worthwhile. The path narrows to a narrow trail. This winds its way up in wide curves. It is so incredibly natural around us. Everything is green. At least now we know why the clock forest path is also called the primeval forest path. It seems as if the Black Forest has been left to itself at this point. Pure nature, everything grows as it wants. Only our small path defies nature. In the meantime we cross a small stream. Of course not without the children building a small dam. We then arrive at the top at the mountain station of the Rohrhardsberg ski lift. Time for a short break in the moss before we walk back down the wide forest paths at ground level. On the back of Rohrhardsberg we stumble upon an incredibly beautiful view. A small wooden bench invites us to rest while we let our gaze wander into the distance. What a dream view. We stroll along a small loop towards Schwedenschanze. We stop at the inn of the same name, the Schwedenschanze. Not just any way, at over 1,100m altitude and with a magnificent view down onto the valley. There are small ponds scattered all over the slope. What a lovely place for a little snack. A few meters further down we come across the Schänzlehof. This is the highest farm in the central Black Forest. The farm is not cultivated, however. Pretty impressive here. Everything is spacious, meadows everywhere and we are on a small forest path in the middle of it all. Shortly afterwards, the wide forest path turns into a narrow trail again. Now it's downhill. We make our way down into the valley on steep, winding paths. We cross a cow pasture, complete with cows, before we collect our stamps from the stamp machine. Once back down, it feels like we're almost at the car. But there's something else to come. We leave the reservoir and the Holz Biber behind us. We walk slightly uphill parallel to the Elz on a fairly narrow, fairly adventurous path. Everything around us is so incredibly green, while the river rushes down next to us. Just before the car park are the small Elz waterfalls. In the truest sense of the word, the journey is the destination. And it also goes over hill and dale in the truest sense of the word. A short time later, the small gorge lets us go again, and the car park is in sight.
The premium hiking trail through the Rohrhardsberg nature reserve offers everything that defines the Black Forest. And much more! From lush pastures to meadows, forests and moors, a waterfall and always great views. Cuckoo clocks in all shapes and colors serve the smaller forest dwellers as breeding and nesting places. Medium to difficult connoisseur path with 2 major climbs, wonderful distant view of the Rohrhardsberg towards the Rhine valley, Vosges, northern Black Forest and Swabian Alb. Rohrhardsberg is the highest point at 1,163 m in the Schwarzwald-Baar district.
The Schwedenschanze is a restaurant, but not a skiing facility as one might assume 😎
