Hiking

Anyone who gets off at the Luckaitztal train station is right in the middle of nature. From here, the Heedekornweg (marked with a yellow dot on a white background) opens up the southern edge of Calauer Schweiz on a varied 14 km long round trip. The path leads through a landscape of ponds, quiet forests and small villages with fieldstone buildings. The highlight of the tour is in the truest sense of the word the Luckaitztaler brick tower on the plateau of the Calauer Schweiz.

Quiet pine forest

Highlight • Forest

Through a quiet pine forest on slightly undulating terrain, the path leads slightly uphill in the direction of the Luckaitztaler Ziegeltum. Blueberry carpets cover the floor. This is relaxation for eyes and ears.

Luckaitztal Brick Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The wooden predecessor, which opened in 1999, was already a popular destination for tourist hikes in Calauer Schweiz and a well-known landmark of the surrounding "Plinsdörfer". Due to structural damage and vandalism, the decision to demolish it had to be made in 2014. The decision to demolish it also gave rise to the desire for a replacement building. The municipality of Luckaitztal also approached the town of Calau and found further support for the project. Under the set specifications of being able to build and maintain the new tower from a durable material, with a low-maintenance construction, at an affordable price, research came across an observation tower built in 2003 in Suderburger Land. After an on-site inspection in September 2014 by representatives from the municipality of Luckaitztal, the Altdöbern office and the town of Calau, the decision was made to build an identical tower, with appropriate local adaptations of the project, as a replacement building in Calauer Schweiz.

Fieldstone houses in the Plins villages

Highlight • Historical Site

In the Plins villages of Weißag, Zwietow and Gosda there are numerous fieldstone buildings to admire: houses, barns, gatehouses, walls. The building material was plentiful along the land ridge, an Ice Age terminal moraine.

Buckwheat field near Zwietow

Highlight • Natural

In some summers, buckwheat grows in the fields near the Plins villages of Weißag, Zwietow and Gosda. The knotweed plant is called Heedekorn here. Its fruits, which resemble beechnuts, are ground into flour and groats. They used to be staples, poor man's food. The buckwheat pancakes achieved a certain fame: they were as popular with locals as they were with day-trippers. This is how the Plinse brought their name to the Plins villages. The Plinse is still available in Gaumers Gasthof and in the "In den Bergen" inn, but usually only on Sundays and by reservation.

October 26, 2024,💕 Calauer Schweiz 💕
Today I went to Calauer Switzerland with my girlfriend 🌞❤️
Fantastically beautiful autumn weather 🍂🍃🌿

Great area.
First we went from our hiking car park to the Luckaitztal brick tower.

Really brilliant. Reopened in 2020.

Then we kept going.
To the Buchwäldchen-Muckwar pond landscape and back to the hiking car park.

Unfortunately it gets dark very quickly now.

The Calau Switzerland? I didn't know about it until today. I'm setting off with a friend. We're taking the train to Lukaitztal. Once we arrived, I thought to myself... who would voluntarily get off here 🤷‍♀️
Well, we did 😉
Let me tell you right away, it was a great Easter walk 🐇☀️

Unfortunately, the first 2.5 km to the brick tower are missing .... but for the whole tour: always follow the yellow dot (Hedekornweg)
