Hello everyone, Hiked the WaWaWe premium hiking trail "Birgeler Urwald" again. It was another lovely, short, and entertaining hike with a friendly group, in beautiful weather. New starting point is on Heinsberger Straße (small parking lot) in Wegberg (Wildenrath). Copy the following coordinates and paste them into Google Maps: 51.119766,6.194752 At the end of the hike, stop at the bakery/café Hoffman; Heinsberger Straße 95, 41844 Wegberg (Wildenrath). Approximately 350m from the starting point. A quaint bakery dating back to 1907. They serve delicious cakes, unfortunately only on Sundays. What should I keep in mind? Definitely wear sturdy, high-top shoes after heavy rain. ...and now I wish you lots of fun.
Even on a Monday there are a lot of people out and about. That's why the paths are all quite wide or reinforced with gravel.😥 But if you look at the landscape between Aachen and Düsseldorf you know why everyone goes hiking and jogging here.
Today, five of us hikers set off through the Birgeler primeval forest. The path goes along a nature trail to the edge of the forest, crosses the still young Schaagbach. Then we go through the Birgeler forest to the "Birgelener Pützchen", a small pilgrimage chapel. We continue along a cross path. After that, we have to overcome a few climbs on which relics of the West Wall can be seen. The path leads to the highest point over the old railway embankment of a disused line. Primeval mixed and beech forests alternate. The paths and trails are often framed by ferns that are almost as tall as a man. Then we reach the romantic Schaagbach valley. The lonely path invites you to enjoy nature. Finally, the path leads back through the marshland around Haus Wildenrath. We see primeval moorland with dead wood and lots of water. Water accompanied us the whole way in the form of lakes, streams and sometimes huge puddles.
Just a training round. Sometimes at a jog. Through thick and thin and mud.😂 . I need to lose 10 kg. I still have a lot to do. I did this hike many years ago. Also with my hiking group.
Hello everybody, a brief hint. The last section is currently still closed due to a dam breach. The bridge shown in the photos has sagged on one side and is no longer on its foundation. However, the breach of the dam could be overcome without any problems. But the rule is: at your own risk. The diversion is also signposted. SG Jürgen
A great premium hiking trail that is well signposted. Perfect for hot days, as 90 percent run in the (primeval) forest. Large & high fern landscapes can be found there. Nice stop at the Nabu house possible. One or the other table explains contemporary facts.
This forest is quaint and there is a twittering sound like in a birdhouse. It is simply lovely to hike here.
