Zauchensee Tour — gravel biking in Flachau

Gravel riding

This fantastic gravel bike tour takes you to the World Cup location of Zauchensee on varied surfaces. You start in Flachau and follow the flat Ennsradweg to Altenmarkt at the beginning to warm up. Passing the church, you reach the idyllic Zauchbachtal, where you alternately walk on asphalt and gravel.

Almost continuously shady in the forest and always close to the Zauchbach, you climb the long climb to Zauchensee. The last two bends are a bit steeper, otherwise the almost 600 meters in altitude are relatively easy to manage. The Alte Zauchstraße spits you out directly at the eponymous lake, where the view of the breathtaking mountain panorama is free.

In the village you can stop at one of the inns and then jet back down to the valley on the paved Zauchenseestraße or on the gravel path you already know. Shortly before Altenmarkt you turn onto the road Am Feuersang and take one last hill under your tires before you cycle back to Flachau on the Ennsradweg.

Alte Zauchstraße

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Wonderful MTB route from Flachau to Zauchensee and back. It is perfect in both directions: the incline is so moderate that even beginners should have no major problems when cranking up. On the way back, however, the slope is so perfect that you will really have to pull yourself together, not to shoot all the caution in the wind and open the brakes.

The route is shared by bikers, hikers and occasionally motorists, so please be careful and only drive so fast that you can still react in an emergency!

Great gravel route. A bit tough in between. At the highest point you can jump into the Zauchensee - brilliant (and cool). 9/10
