This route was planned by komoot.
Komoot suggested this tour to me. It was good and varied. Only the last 10 meters were impossible to get through. 🤪
It was a great tour in fog and freezing temperatures... Unfortunately there were no buffalo to see today, I think they are in their winter quarters It was a very nice circular walk
In the drizzle 🌧️ followed a suggestion from @Das Bergische and went looking for water buffalo 🐃 in Freudenthal.
The tour begins at the St. Lucia Church, leads through the Volbachtal uphill through Unterkuehlheim to Voiskuehlheim. It goes downhill past Scheurenhöfchen to Obersteeg and through the Sülztal back to the starting point. Immekeppel is in the Sülztal. Immekeppel was first mentioned in a document in 1166 as Sulsen. The place was renamed for unknown reasons, for the first time in 1309 the new name Ymmin kappelin is documented. Immo and Keppel are two water buffaloes who have been doing their job as landscapers in Freudenthal near Immekeppel in the Bergisches Land faithfully and extremely effectively for several years. The water buffalo duo, two oxen, should ensure that the former meadow valley is kept open so that more and more trees and bushes do not reverse the climate in the valley. The Freudenthal, through which the Volbach flows, is not only worth exploring because of the buffalo: for many decades it was the scene of ore mining in the Bensberg district.
