🌿 Adventure in East Belgium: wild streams, waterfalls & alpine paths 🐕🏞️ Today Asta and I went on a breathtaking tour in East Belgium - a real natural paradise! 🌞🌲 The Bayehon, a wild mountain stream, led us through one of the most beautiful valleys in the region. Right from the start, a steep path challenged us before we crossed a wooden bridge into the wild nature. The narrow path along the babbling stream quickly changed: pebbles, roots and boggy sections made the tour exciting - almost alpine! 🥾✨ The highlight? The Bayehon waterfall, which plunges from nine meters into a basin - an impressive natural spectacle! 🌊 A few meters higher up, the Old Oak (Vieux Chêne), which has accompanied hikers for centuries, greeted us. We crossed the mystical Fagne de Setay moor, 🐶 Dogs are allowed, but please keep them on a leash! 📍 Marking: Red rectangle & "deer" logo This hike really has everything: waterfalls, wild nature and a feeling of freedom. Perfect for anyone who loves adventure! ❤️ #HikingWithDog #EastBelgium #Bayehon #Waterfall #PureNature #OutdoorLife
My hike starts at the Moulin du Bayehon car park in Ovifat near Malmedy in Belgium. The first part of the route was on beautiful, natural paths along the Rau de Bayehon. Root paths and a steady climb soon lead you to the waterfall (cascade du Bayehon). The descent is definitely worth it! I enjoy my second breakfast with the sound of the water! The hike continues through the forest over hill and dale and above all roots. You soon notice that you are on the plateau of the High Fens. It gets wetter and boggier. The first wooden walkways appear. After a few kilometers I leave the forest. Now I really am in the moor! A stick from the side of the path becomes my faithful companion to keep my feet dry. The midday sun is really strong today! Halfway along the route, the bench with a beautiful view comes just at the right time 🙂
Today we went to Longfaye, the place is probably the highest village in the Ardennes. We have chosen a route that leads us largely past the water. The waters of the Venn accompany us on this unique tour. Thousands of small springs gurgle on the left and on the right of the path, they feed nameless rivulets, which converge in the creeks of Bayehon and Pouhon. After we have hiked a little uphill, the creek now tumbles roaring over the rocks and becomes a waterfall. The Cascade du Bayehon falls Approx. 9 meters deep and is very, very loud, especially after rain or heavy water outflow. Hikers who are sure-footed can climb directly down to the waterfall.
Another beautiful round trip that is a bit more "leisurely" and mostly easy to walk on paths. However, a little surefootedness is required for some short sections. The highlight, in addition to the wonderful path through the raised moor, is definitely the beautiful waterfall..🌊🐸
At Le Moulin du Bayehon we stop the car 🚘. We get out and the air is chilly. The morning dew is still on the grass, When we start, full of energy and in step. Through forests of deciduous trees 🌳 and pines 🌲 along the winding path, We walk quietly, the view surprises. Mosses, glistening in the soft light, A magical spectacle that nature illuminates for us. The sound of water suddenly sounds close, The Bayehon calls, powerful and free. The waterfall flows with a thundering sound, A pearl that spurts out between the rocks 😍 We stand on the edge and watch in amazement, How the water 💦 thunders down. It splashes and splashes, clear and fast, In this natural spectacle, Mother Nature directs the game. As we continue, into the forest again, We are one with the silence, again and again. Mushrooms 🍄🍄🟫 color our path. Suddenly Dirk is surprised by a mud bath 😱 We continue in good spirits. The sun ☀️ gives the fens a special glow. We also stop at Our Lady of Banneux. We were très heuruex from this nature walk in Malmedy 🤩
You can park in a small parking lot on the road near the mill. It's better to walk in the opposite direction I was walking, as this will give you the most beautiful sections and the waterfall at the end. Great hike along the Bayehon River and through the Belgian raised bog! Over narrow, rooty, and rocky paths. We finished the hike at the Moulin Bayehon, which has a great terrace.
