Today I was able to enjoy a great autumn hike in the company of two very charming ladies from nebenan.de, lots of mushrooms, great colors and lots of peace and quiet. It was all around fun. Afterwards, the almost obligatory stop at the Ternell forest house rounded off the day!
Great nature experience! Absolute surefootedness and waterproof hiking boots are recommended.
Very pleasant walk in the heart of a forest of magnificent autumn color. Some difficult passages especially along the Helle in the first part of the hike. It is also not certain that this part of the route will be passable during the high water period that we generally experience in winter and early spring. In any case, you need good equipment to do this hike which is one of the most beautiful of those I have been able to do since I started using Komoot
I really enjoyed it 😍I was here when I was 21 and you couldn't cross the bridge on the Getzbach.
That was a really beautiful tour. The landscape was wildly romantic, varied and rich in diverse impressions. At just under 8km, it was very manageable and more of a walk - despite everything, a dream in (guaranteed) any season. A beautiful circular route to "slow down" - immediately after you set off into the forest at the Haus Ternell nature center, the silence of the High Fens takes you in. Far away from any noise of civilization, you can enjoy the varied landscape and be much more aware of the ambient noises such as the cheerful babbling of the streams and the light wind in the trees. If you look at the tour in the planning on Komoot, it looks completely unspectacular - just a round in the countryside... But the reality offers much more variety and hiking fun! For a stop before or after the hike, we recommend the restaurant next to Haus Ternell. 😋 The first highlight can be reached just 400 meters after the start of the tour, as soon as you turn right at the shelter/rest area onto a wild and unspoilt root path that follows the course of the Ternell stream... A great area! 🐻👍🏾 +++ 🐻 +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ https://www.ostbelgien.eu/de/fiche/hiking/genusstour-vom-wald-der-herzoege Signage: green cross. Majestic in appearance: The centuries-old Hertogenwald rightly bears its name. In the 17th century, the Ternell house, in the heart of the Hertogenwald, served as a hunting lodge for a wool manufacturer from Monschau. Today it is the ideal starting point for walks and hikes. The clearing is about 500 meters above sea level and leads into the largest closed forest area in Belgium. Just a few steps and we are in the deepest forest, surrounded by green thickets. The Hertogenwald is the opposite of a gloomy fairytale forest. Sunbeams penetrate through the leaves and make streams and rocks sparkle. At the end of the path lies a lost valley. A few tree stumps protrude from the dark riverbed. Between granite rocks and steep slopes we follow the stream, which becomes more and more of a river before it flows into the Weser. Halfway there we go uphill again so that we reach the other bank. The Getzbach flows here and accompanies us to our starting point, Haus Ternell. 🐻****************************************🐻 Directions by car 🚗 : Parking lot Monschauer Straße Ternell 2, 4700 Eupen, Belgium 50°35'09.0"N 6°07'49.2"E
One of the most beautiful hikes from Ternell. First we go down through the Getzbach valley before going back up through the Helle (Hill). Difficult path in places (roots) which can be very muddy in winter.
Here you need sure-footedness, sturdy shoes You shouldn't be afraid of heights. A sign points to the dangerous path. There were months when I first hesitated whether to go on. But wonderful. 8 km over root paths, stones, rubble.
