Hiking
Where hundreds of years ago, goods were transported back and forth over difficult passages between the villages of Albinen and Leukerbad, today you will find the oldest via ferrata in Switzerland - the Albinenleiter. You don't need any climbing equipment to master the hike over the eight wooden ladders. However, you should still be sure-footed and not afraid of heights to master this six-kilometer hike.
The starting point of the tour is the village square in Leukerbad. You hike south out of the village, through the Lochwald forest and after a good two kilometers you reach the Albinenleitern. Now you overcome the almost 100 meter difference in altitude over the eight wooden ladders of the path and can then take a rest in the Flaschen restaurant. The route continues over meadows and fields - with a breathtaking view of the Rhone Valley - to the destination Albinen.

The oldest via ferrata in Switzerland - or rather the Alps - since 1781. Climb the adventurous Albinen ladders on the historic trade route between the villages of Albinen and Leukerbad. The highlight of the hike is climbing the eight wooden ladders that were once used to overcome the only connection between Albinen and Leukerbad. In Albinen you will find one of the typical Valais villages with traditional, sun-blackened chalets. The two-hour hike from Leukerbad to Albinen is only suitable for hikers who don't suffer from vertigo. At the middle station Flaschen I took the upper path instead of the parallel lower one. So be careful, otherwise it will continue uphill to the Torrent mountain peak. The path then leads partly through the forest, partly over fields and meadows above the hamlet of Dorben towards Albinen. Albinen is a typical mountain village with numerous well-preserved Valais mountain farmhouses and barns.
