Zauchensee, the place on the lake of the same name, is well-known above all for winter sports enthusiasts. In summer it is much quieter and you can comfortably drive up from Altenmarkt im Pongau to the beautiful lake at around 1,340 meters. Around this there are some nice rest stops.

Along the Zauchbach it goes in its valley through the dense Zauchwald. You can enjoy the ambience both uphill and downhill, because the way there and back are identical.

Tip: On the way back you should plan the short climb on the west side of the valley to the Sattelbauer. The beautifully situated mountain inn is known not only for the wonderful panorama of the Grießenkar in Flachau, the Bischofsmütze in Filzmoos and the imposing Dachstein massif for its delicious regional specialties.

Alte Zauchstraße

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Wonderful MTB route from Flachau to Zauchensee and back. It is perfect in both directions: the incline is so moderate that even beginners should have no major problems when cranking up. On the way back, however, the slope is so perfect that you will really have to pull yourself together, not to shoot all the caution in the wind and open the brakes.

The route is shared by bikers, hikers and occasionally motorists, so please be careful and only drive so fast that you can still react in an emergency!

After we arrived safely, we then went on a nice little tour to Zauchensee. We are now happy to finally be able to enjoy the Alps for a week😊

The route to Zausensee isn't all that bad. 😅 Especially when it's almost 30 degrees, there are always shady spots along the route and a nice place to cool off in front of a fountain, or in the Zauchbach itself! I took advantage of both! ☺️😀 I didn't like it so much up at Zausensee though. OK, what did I expect? 😅🙈

The ski area was created in the 1960s. In 1964 the lift company was established in Zauchensee and the first drag lift went into operation in the winter of 1964/65. Further expansions of the ski facilities and the transport connection between Altenmarkt and Zauchensee followed. In 1989 the company merged with the Radstadt-Altenmarkt lift company. In 2006 the Seekarsee was created as a storage lake for making snow on the ski slopes. [2] [3]
