Rhododendron route – themed bike Tours in Ammerland

Maybe good for bloom, I wouldn't drive it again.

In spring, thousands of rhododendrons bloom in Ammerland. The sea of blossoms is ideal for exploring by bike: the 47-kilometre Rhododendron Route leads to the loveliest gardens and parks. Even without visiting the parks, it is worth driving this route. I have the impression that every house is adorned with the beautiful flowers, often there are whole hedges and sometimes the rhododendrons can even be found in the middle of the forest. The lands of the tree nurseries are also worth seeing. The tour is just gorgeous. We'll look at one of the parks tomorrow.

A very nice tour especially at this time of year because the rhododendrons bloom wonderfully in all colors everywhere. You should perhaps drive around Bad Zwischenahn on a Sunday when the weather is nice because it is totally overcrowded and there seems to be no Corona there. I downloaded this tour from Ammerland Touristik as a GPX file, There it is described that there are well-developed cycle paths that allow a problem-free ride, unfortunately I cannot agree because a section of the route (approx. from km 35 to 40) is in a desolate condition, this is an asphalt road.

Today we headed to Ammerland! The tour started in Westerstede. The route offers a variety of natural scenery. The rhododendrons, which are common in this area and are currently in bloom🌺, are particularly pleasing to the eye. The route also boasts many winding, sometimes very narrow paths, whether through the forest🌳, along the river🏞️, and, amazingly, even between fields🌾. Very well-planned route. This route is definitely one of the most beautiful routes we have ridden so far! Highly Recommended!

The route at the gliding airfield is an old concrete road, about 4 km long, which is very unpleasant to drive.

Great tour you couldn't get enough of the many flowers. I think the pictures say more than words. Unfortunately, the weather gods didn't mean it so well with us - we had to wait for a few showers

After visiting the Rhododenron Park of the The Hobbie family, the tour continues towards Wiefelstede and then on the Wiefelstedermoorweg towards Rhododendron Park Gristede. I left it on the left and cycled on towards Bad Zwischenahn 🚴. After crossing the motorway bridge, you have to turn left onto Jörnstraße. Attention !!! You cross the street just before a bend and the drivers 🚗 only see you at the last moment. The route then leads past some tree nurseries 🌲🌳. After a short rest in Bad Zwischenahn, it goes back to the starting point, to Westerstede. You will pass a glider airfield and if you are lucky you can watch the glider pilots 🛩️ take off. Then you cycle past the third 💐Park. Finally, there is the Bruns tree nursery to see with different types of rhododendrons and free-range azaleas. There are some nice resting places here.
